B'nai Mitzvah
Alicia Fisk, daughter of Denise and William Fisk of Chandler, will become a bat mitzvah March 5, 2005, at Temple Emanuel of Tempe.
Grandparents are Sheila and Carlo Massaro of Deer Park, N.Y.
Alicia attends San Tan K-8.
For her mitzvah project, Alicia did Chores for Children, collecting money by getting paid to do chores. The money went to children affected by the tsunami.
Ethan Michael Berkson, son of Ellen and Barry Berkson of Peoria, became a bar mitzvah Feb. 12, 2005, at Congregation Bonei Chai.
Grandparent is Ruth Tuchman of Scottsdale.
Ethan attends Frontier Elementary School. His hobbies include Aikido, saxophone, Boy Scouts, swimming and volleyball.
For his mitzvah project, Ethan worked at the Westside Food Bank sorting food. He also worked for the Sahuaro Ranch Foundation on park beautification projects.
Miles H. Laff, son of Amy and Eugene Laff of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah March 5, 2005, at Har Zion Congregation.
Grandparents are Mike Halpern of Sarasota, Fla.; and Judy and Sylvan Wallach of New York City.
Miles attends The King David School. His hobbies include competitive fencing and dog agility.
John Carter Owens, son of Karen and Steve Owens of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah March 5, 2005, at Temple Solel.
Grandparents are Maxine Owens of Memphis, Tenn.; the late Milburne Owens; and the late Hazel and William Carter.
Great-grandparents are the late Anna and Isadore Cohen.
John attends Desert Canyon Middle School. His hobbies include sports, drawing and music.
For his mitzvah project, John worked on clean-up and after-school projects with The Family School, a charter school serving low-income families.
Jeffrey Spencer Lynn, son of Betsy and Gerry Lynn of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah March 5, 2005, at Temple Chai.
Grandparents are Phyllis Hirschfeld of Sun City West; the late Harry Lynn; and the late Sylvia and Harold Gildar.
Jeffrey attends Mountainside Middle School. His hobbies include science, comedy, chess, tennis, trumpet and dogs.
For his mitzvah project, Jeffrey volunteered at Paradise Valley Emergency Food Bank. He also worked a donation booth for Home Based Youth Services and made a donation of clothes and games to the Thomas J. Pappas School for the Homeless.
Nathan Charles Sherman, son of Tanie and Scott Sherman of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah March 5, 2005, at Temple Solel.
Grandparents are Judith and Harlan Sherman of Cleveland; and Carol and Norbert Zubeck of Chenoa, Ill.
Nathan attends Phoenix Country Day School. His hobbies include baseball, basketball, outdoor sports and skiing.
For his mitzvah project, Nathan performed 13 mitzvot.
