Obituaries

Esther Goodman

Esther Goodman of Phoenix died Jan. 16, 2005. She was 87. She was born in New York and moved to Arizona in 1984.

Survivors include her daughter, Ruth Shea of Scottsdale; son, Harvey Goodman of Cave Creek; sisters, Doris Cohen of Del Ray Beach, Fla., and Gertrude Baltuck of Boca Raton, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Phoenix Memorial Park, with Rabbi Stephen Kahn officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.



Zeevy Mogilevsky

Zeevy Mogilevsky of Phoenix died Feb. 9, 2005. He was 58. He was born in Israel and moved to Arizona from Panama in 1994. He was the owner of an import/export company. He was a member of Young Israel of Phoenix.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Turner; daughter, Tammy Angel of Panama City, Panama; son, Mijael Mogilevsky of Panama City; stepdaughter, Gwenn Krell of Phoenix; stepson, Sean Turner of Chandler; mother, Shoshana Rotsheld of Tel Aviv, Israel; sister, Delilah Azrak of Panama City; brother, Tamir Mor of San Diego, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Services were held in Panama City. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Young Israel of Phoenix, 745 E. Maryland Ave., Suite 120, Phoenix 85014.



Max Greenberg

Max Greenberg, 92, passed away on Feb. 6, 2005. Mr. Greenberg was born in New York City and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 4105th Army Air Force Base Unit of the Army of the United States. He retired from the Postal Service and subsequently from the Magnus Automotive Warehouse Division of the Texstar Corp. of Bedford Heights, Ohio. In 1979 he moved to Los Angeles, CA with his wife, Polly (Konigsberg). In 1995 following the Northridge Earthquake, they moved to Phoenix.

Mr. Greenberg was a member of Har Zion Congregation and the Jewish War Veterans Post 210, Scottsdale.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Polly, and his children: Richard H.(Kay) Greenberg of Seattle, WA; Marta E. Greenberg of Litchfield, NH; Robert J. (Donna) Greenberg of Chico, CA; and Anne S. Greenberg (Rick McGuire) of Scottsdale; and his grandchildren; Katherine Greenberg, Ben Greenberg, Aaron McGuire, and Eric McGuire. Also surviving are sisters Matilda Kolt, Solon, OH; Helen Goldberg, Lorain, OH; and Ruth Sandler, Mayfield Heights, OH.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005 in Phoenix. Contributions suggested to the Jewish National Fund or the Southern Poverty Law Center of Montgomery, Alabama. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



Julia Ann Roth

Julia Ann Roth, Age 92, of Phoenix, passed away on February 18, 2005. She was born in Akron, Ohio and came to the Valley 40 years ago from Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by husband Oscar Roth.

Survivors include son A. David (Brenda) Roth, daughter Marlene C. (Louis) Liepack, sister Shirley Boster, brother Edward (Judy) Daitch, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 21, 2005 in Phoenix. Contributions in her memory are suggested to Banner of Hope, 11657 E. Whethersfield Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85259, or Kivel Chaplain Fund, 3020 N. 36th St, Phoenix, AZ 85018.

Adelle Rothstein

Adelle Rothstein, 79, of Phoenix, passed away on February 22, 2005 after a long, courageous battle with overian cancer. Born in Minneapolis, MN, Adelle moved to Arizona in 1960 with her husband Harold, who preceded her in death in 2003.

Survivors include daughter Arlene Provost; son Gary Rothstein; sister Elizabeth Ehrich; gradchildren Stacey Dooley, Scott Provost, Danny Rothstein and Geoffrey Rothstein and Geoffrey Rothstein; great-grandchildren Cole and Andora Dooley, and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services 1:30 pm Friday, February 25th in Beth El Cemetery, inside Greenwood Memory Lawn, 2300 W. Van Buren St. in Phoenix. Contributions in her memory may be made to American Cancer Society, Ovarian Cancer, 2929 E. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85016. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



Bea (Baron) Zuckerman


Bea (Baron) Zuckerman, 86, died Sunday February 6, 2005, in Phoenix, AZ. The daughter of the late Saul and Ida Baron, Bea was born in Fall River, MA, where she graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School. She lived in Brockton, MA for many years. She was an ardent believer in volunteerism and was a Girl Scout Leader, member of the Sisterhoods of Congregation Agudas Achim and Temple Israel, member and Past President of Hadassah. She also volunteered with the Jewish National Fund.

Bea moved to Mesa, AZ in 1970, and began volunteering at Mesa General Hospital. She enjoyed sewing and ceramics, was a voracious reader and crossword puzzle devotee. In her later years, she became a world traveler and visited almost every nation. In her seventies, she volunteered twice with the Volunteers-in-Service to the Israeli Armed Forces. Bea served with her girlfriend at a Canteen for off-duty serviceman and was very proud of the fact that they also helped the Palestinians in the area. She was a lifelong student of archeology and history and participated in Elder Hostel Programs both here and abroad. For the last five years of her life she resided at Kivel Manor in Phoenix.

She is survived by three daughters; Lynda (Charles) Nelson of Berlin, MA; Judi Chaskes of Brockton, MA; Elaine (Richard) Nelson of Mesa, AZ; seven grandchildren; David Nelson of Princeton, MA; Glenn (Barbara) Nelson of Berlin, MA; Sarah Nelson of Bangor, ME; Daniel (Laurie) Chaskes of Braintree, MA; Jennifer Chaskes Johnson of Mesa; Rachel Nelson of Scottsdale; and Abigail Nelson of Mesa. She also leaves four great-grandchildren; Haley and Noah Nelson of Berlin, MA; and Joshua and Benjamin Chaskes of Braintree, MA. Beatrice leaves a sister Doris Thompson of Monroe, MI. Her sister Edna Gabar and brother Oscar Baron predeceased her, as did her grandson Joseph Nelson of Mesa.

Bea believed in living life to the fullest and that each person can make a positive difference in the world. She lived these ideals daily and will be greatly missed by her family and the many people whose lives she touched.
