People on the moveAs of Jan. 1., Park Central Deli has new owners: Jim Bickoff and Charley Sands. The duo acquired the eatery from Craig and Ellen Dean. Bickoff also owns Downtown Deli. The La Jolla, Calif.-based restaurant was brought to the Valley by its three local partners, Dennis Hitzman, Tony Subia and Mal Jozoff. Carl Essert, a former 17-year resident of Phoenix and general manager of the La Jolla eatery, will oversee as executive general manager, with Robert Volpe serving as general manager. The new restaurant, located at 3103 E. Camelback Road, Phoenix, will feature a wine and cocktail bar, as well as a Havana Club smoking lounge. Reservations are recommended. Call 602-955-3666. For the third year in a row, Perkins Coie LLP has been named one of the nation's 100 best companies to work for by Fortune magazine, ranking 47th on the list. Phoenix-based Brown & Bain combined with the company in July 2004, due, in part, to the firm's culture. Paul Eckstein, co-owner of Jewish News of Greater Phoenix, is a partner in the firm. The specialty coffee and tea retailer, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, opened its 10th location in the Valley. The new Scottsdale store, 4032 N. Miller Road, is the fourth to be located in Scottsdale.
