Obituaries

Glen Karlin

Glen Karlin of Phoenix died Jan. 5, 2005. He was 95. He was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona in 1970. He was a retired grocery store owner. He was a founding member of the Merchant and Manufacturers bank of Melrose Park, Ill. He was also a major contributor to the Golfview School for the Handicapped in Illinois.

Survivors include sons, Philip of Scottsdale and Elliot of Chandler; sister, Sara Levin of Tucson; brother, Bernard of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at Temple Beth Israel Cemetery, with Rabbi Andrew Straus officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.



Joseph Horowitz

Joseph Horowitz of Phoenix died Jan. 6, 2005. He was 92. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona in 1982. He was a retired pharmacist.

Survivors include his wife Jeanette; and daughters, Rustie Brooke of Park Slope, N.Y., and Joette Mazrall of Chandler.

Private services were held. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.



Sheldon Cherney

Sheldon Cherney of Scottsdale died Jan. 9, 2005. He was 76. He was born in Canada and moved to Arizona 10 years ago from Michigan. He was a professor emeritus of Michigan State University.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine; daughter, Marianne Weinsheink of Scottsdale; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at Phoenix Memorial Park. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.
