Local business owners offer aid in Sri Lanka

Two Temple Solel congregants are very involved in disaster relief in Sri Lanka. Jeff and Laura Beraznik own Cutters Gloves, a Phoenix-based company with a factory in Sri Lanka.

Jeff Beraznik told Jewish News that the factory is inland and was largely unaffected by the tsunami. Most of its more than 700 workers are back on the job, but as of Jan. 5, four were still missing.

Factory workers are helping their countrymen by assembling packets of essentials - rice, powdered milk, sugar, lentils, biscuits, bottled water, sheets, towels, medicine and other essentials. They hand-deliver the packets so they reach those most greatly affected as quickly as possible.

Each packet costs $10 and Beraznik's company has pledged money for 500 packets. In just five days, more than $20,000 had been raised, he said.

All donations are for the items, he explained, adding there are no administrative costs. Checks may be made payable to "Cutters Help for Sri Lanka" and sent to: Cutters Help for Sri Lanka, 4902 E. McDowell Road, Suite 103, Phoenix 85008. Contact Beraznik at jeff@cuttersgloves.com.
