Letters to the EditorJanuary 7, 2005
No longer silentEditor:I just finished reading the editorial entitled "The 'N' word" (Jewish News, Dec. 24). In the name of all the victims of the Shoah, living and dead, I thank you. It was time that someone gave a voice to all the hurt that we survivors swallowed for more than half a century. The first 30 years after World War II, no one wanted to listen to us. The silence was deafening. However, I do not know what is more hurtful: the silence, or the way the Shoah is compared to any situation by anyone who feels it would serve their purpose. We have no power to control it, but perhaps we could ask everyone to wait a few short years when all of us who lived it, who still live with the memories buried in our souls even today, will be gone.
