Obituaries

Zeke Barry Ashley

Zeke Barry Ashley of Phoenix died Nov. 8, 2004. He was 59. He was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona in 1979. He was a retired mathematics teacher. He was a longtime leader of the Anytown program of the National Conference of Community and Justice.

Survivors include his sister, Frances Farkas of Morton Grove, Ill.; and brother, Martin Ashley of Somers, N.Y.

Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel. Arrangements were made at Sinai Mortuary.

Luiza Cohen

Luiza Cohen of Fountain Hills died Nov. 18, 2004. She was 64. She was born in Fall River, Mass., and moved to Arizona from Delaware in 2000. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Hadassah, Valley of the Sun Chapter, presided over various organizations within Hadassah and was elected to Hadassah's national board.

Survivors include her husband, Edward; daughter, Alison of Plano, Texas; sons, William of Phoenix and Jason of Matawan, N.J.; sisters, Aimee Schwartz of Phoenix and Jane Schwartz of Hamden, Conn.; and brother, Jon Schwartz of Jamaica Plains, Mass.

Services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Jack L. Chriss

Jack L. Chriss, age 82, a long-time resident of Phoenix, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2004 in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Jack was retired from Arizona Public Service Company, a life-time member of IEEE and was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers in the European Theater of War.

Survivors include his loving wife, Dee Chriss; daughters Barbara Chriss of El Cerrito, CA, Linda Aarons of Phoenix, Carolyn Chriss (Robert Fromson) of Sherman Oaks, CA, and Tina (Robert) Armstrong of El Paso, TX; sister Miriam Neiman of Sun City; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, November 26th at 12:30 p.m. in Sinai Mortuary Chapel, 4538 N. 16th St., Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36104, or a charity of personal choice.



Leonard Monashkin

Leonard Monashkin, age 86, passed away November 20, 2004 in Scottsdale, AZ. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and has been a resident of the Valley for the past 40 years. Lenny was retired, and, during WWII, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ethel Monashkin, son Sheldon (Suzanne) Monashkin, daughters Ellen (Howard) Grobstein and Marlene (Michael) Guthart, sister Sheila Schwartz, brother Albert (Sondra) Monash, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 21st in Sinai Mortuary Chapel. Contributions in his memory are suggested to Arizona Lung Association, 102 W. McDowell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85003.
