Gloomy weather may have kept some shoppers away, but the second annual JCC Fine Art & Gift Show on Nov. 7 showcased unique merchandise to hundreds of visitors to the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center.
More than 50 vendors from around the state and beyond contributed to the offerings at the gift show. Shoppers ogled a diverse selection of goods, from Judaic fused glass art from the studio of Scottsdale artist Bobby Harr, to skin and beauty items from The Elegant Touch Spa Products.
JBW Entertainment and the Jewish song stylings of Dallas-area cantorial soloist Susan Colin provided musical accompaniment to the afternoon. Also, a raffle offered prizes from the vendors, including a Swarvoski crystal pen from Galicia Jewelers, a necklace from Oh! Susannah and a hand-knit baby hat from Haute Kniture.
Pam Slepak, owner of Baskets with an Attitude and a return exhibitor from last year's show, says that while the show was going well for her, "there's not as many people this year, not as many vendors." However, she added that she was not too concerned about selling at the show, since it was a good opportunity to get exposure for her business.
It was the first year at the show for Jen Maidelberg and Devora Yellin Brustin, co-owners of Tucson-based 2 Jewish Cowgirls. Brustin said, "We're having a lot of fun. There's Jewish cowgirls and cowboys everywhere." She noted their top-selling items were a "100% Kosher Beef" men's T-shirt, a hot-pink short-sleeved "Kosher Cowgirl" T-shirt, and a long-sleeved women's shirt that reads, "Jewish Cowgirls Love to Ride."
Shopper Fran Shabrin purchased a baby gift from Lion Around, a children's apparel company. She called the show "pretty good," but she felt there could have been "more diversity, some different vendors."
The event was coordinated by Sensational Events, owned by Amy Petrovsky.
