Shop 'til you drop at JCC gift show

Need Hanukkah gift ideas? Look no further than the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center's Fine Art and Gift Show, held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 at the JCC, 12701 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale.

About 50 vendors will be exhibiting their wares, and shoppers can choose from everything from mezuzot, gourmet food and jewelry to gift baskets, apparel, stationery and more.

Here is a preview of some of the items that you can pick up at the show:


Metals Edge Studio

Looking for a one-of-a-kind Judaica item for Hanukkah? Metals Edge Studio crafts fused glass and metal menorahs, mezuzot, Havdalah spice containers and much more.

Metals Edge mezuzot are handmade from a variety of materials including fused glass, copper, sterling silver and mokuné-gane, a Japanese wood-grain metal. Prices range from $55-$225. Call 480-425-0026.


Brayton Rogers Designs

Each handbag from Brayton Rogers Designs is a unique work of art made from an original, recycled cigar box and individually fashioned by the artist.

To create one piece, a cigar box is cleaned, sprayed with polyeurethane and outfitted with brass hinges, latches and other hardware. Rogers then chooses beads to assemble a one-of-a-kind handle that coordinates with the color palate of the box and preselected lining. Finally, each box is lined with one of 50 fabrics in the artist's inventory. Call 623-566-8971.


Jaykar Jewelers

A stunning Rainbow by Parle ring features 14-carat white gold with 1.65 carats of sapphires and .24 carats of diamonds. There are 22 invisible-set sapphires in rainbow colors bordered by 22 prong-set round brilliant diamonds. The price is $1,450, and Jaykar Jewelers, owned by Karen and Jay Sadow, will be showing an extensive selection of jewelry in a variety of price ranges at the gift show. Call 480-947-2136.


Liza Lou Apparel

Liza Lou Apparel is a Web-based business that offers clothing and accessories for babies newborn to 12 months. Each item is custom-made out of the finest cotton, and is wrapped in an organza bag tied by a silk string.

One piece is a stylish lime green long sleeve "onesie" with a yellow-and-green-beaded lemon design. It comes wrapped in a Liza Lou signature organza bag and costs $25. Call 602-410-2359.


2 Jewish Cowgirls

2 Jewish Cowgirls sells hip duds for Jew-folk and the "best durn Judaica in the West," including apparel for women, men and children.

A retro baseball-style "Jewish Cowboys" shirt is 100 percent cotton and sells for $25. Also available at the show will be Western and Southwestern-inspired menorahs, mezuzot and kippot, "Kosher Cowgirl" aprons, "100% Kosher Beef" T-shirts for men and more. Call (520) 331-7352.


Baubles and Beads

Cindy Daniels calls Baubles and Beads her version of "a little boutique." She sells accessories, handmade soaps, handmade jewelry and other unique gifts, and recently added a bakery component to Baubles and Beads that offers sweet treats perfect for Hanukkah.

Earrings are crafted with pear-shaped tourmalines in shades of pink and green, and embellished with olive and fuchsia Swarovski crystals. Cost is $99. Call 480-231-0314.


Michael's Garden

Michael's Garden in Phoenix is a nonprofit store that hires special-needs individuals to help create some of its beautiful merchandise. Cards, party favors, children's items, door hangers and other unique gifts will be available at the JCC gift show.

The"Temple of Light" hand-painted ceramic candleholder uses just one tea light to create a beautiful effect. Cost is $40. Call 602-997-2331.


Cookies in Bloom

There's always room for cookies, and a Hanukkah cookie bouquet from Cookies in Bloom will make a delightful holiday centerpiece (and eventually, a delicious holiday dessert). Bouquets run between $28.50 and $85 and can be made for any holiday, celebration or event. Cookies in Bloom can deliver cookie bouquets throughout the 55-Valley and ship nationally. Marla's Inkwell

Marla's Inkwell stationery by Marla Levine is an ideal gift for the letter-writer in your life. Levine, a calligrapher, brings her Jewish sensibility and signature style to a line of greeting cards. Jewish Song Service

Jewish Song Service will be selling CDs of familiar worship music featuring Susan Colin, a cantorial soloist from the Dallas area. "Shabbat Favorites" is perfect for getting into the Hanukkah mood, or to learn many of the songs often heard at services. The variety of easy listening and upbeat songs makes for a joyful listening experience. "Prayer of the Heart" is a gentle, introspective collection of High Holiday songs as well as what Susan refers to as "music for Jewish moments" that are a blessing all year round. Galicia Jewelers

Modern-day friendship bracelets from Galicia Fine Jewelers in Scottsdale are fun and trendy. Hand-woven with silk, the colorful bracelets are meant to be tied around the wrist, leaving the tassels cascading down the wrist.

The bracelets are handmade in Italy and come in 10 different colors, each with a different meaning; for example, pink represents friendship and turquoise represents wisdom. Each meaning is represented by an 18-carat white or yellow gold charm at the end of the bracelet.

A uniquely designed piece from Butterfly Kisses, ESL Jewelry's children's collection, is made using only the finest materials from around the world: Swarovski crystals from Austria, sterling silver from India, and handmade glass beads from the Czech Republic. The focal bead in this bracelet is created out of silver foil that is hand-painted, giving the bead its beautiful rosebud design. It is then covered in clear hand-blown glass.

ESL Jewelry will also be offering personalized name jewelry for children and moms along with Mommy & Me bracelet sets, earring, and necklaces.
