Conference aims to raise spiritual childrenMany parents face the problem of connecting their children to Judaism and imparting the enthusiasm of the heritage. An upcoming conference aims to aid in that education. "Tikkun Ha Nefesh: Renewing the Spirit through Jewish Education" is an educational conference open to all interested in the spiritual education and revival of today's youth. The event, to begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, and continue through Friday, Nov. 12, at Temple Beth Sholom, 3400 N. Dobson Road, Chandler, is cosponsored by the synagogue and Ruach Hamidbar-Spirit of the Desert. Workshops will be held to discuss issues such as how educators can stay connected to Judaism while passing on the knowledge to students. The national conference was initiated by grant funding that came from the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center. The goal of the event is to enliven Jewish educators, as well as students. Kay Lapid, administrator at Temple Beth Sholom, said the synagogue was asked to host the event by Ruach Hamidbar, who does not have a facility. The keynote speaker is Rabbi Goldie Milgram, founder and executive director of Reclaiming Judaism. Other presenters will include Rabbi Avrhum Addison, Susan Deikman, Jim Dricker, Gabe Goldman, Rabbi Vic- tor Gross, Rabbi Nadya Gross, Rabbi Burt Jacobson, Elisheva Hurvitz and Sara Razieli. Rabbi Zalman Schacter Shalomi, considered the founder of the Jewish Renewal movement, will address the conference via video interview. On Wednesday at 8 p.m., Susan will perform her moving and uplifting music. The concert is open to the community for a donation of $10.
