Obituaries

Irwin Smith

Irwin Smith of Phoenix died Sept. 24, 2004. He was 78. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona in 1969. He was a marker in the garment industry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia; daughters, Amy Dolinky of Scottsdale, Janet Gillmore of Phoenix and Nadine Gwin of Phoenix; and three grandchildren.

Services were held at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.



Hans J. Haller

Hans J. Haller of Mesa died Sept. 26, 2004. He was born in Leipzig, Germany, and moved to Arizona from New York in 1980. He was a retired offset printer. He was a member of Temple Beth Sholom. He was a volunteer at Brimhall Junior High School.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughters, Vivian Butler of Mesa and Ilana Baruch of Israel; son, Gad Harel of Pamona, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Mesa City Cemetery, with Rabbi Bonnie J. Koppell officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Harold M. Rubenstein

Harold M. Rubenstein, age 76, passed away at home Thursday, September 23, 2004. He was born in Chicago, and has been a resident of the valley for the past 34 years. Harold was a retired scrap dealer and entrepreneur.

Survivors include his wife Beverly Rubenstein, sons Ellis Rubenstein and Edward (Janet Landay) Hirsch, daughters Helen (Jerry) Holden and Arlene Hirsch, sister Elaine Wolf, and 8 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 26th in Phoenix. Contributions in his memory are suggested to The King David School, 12753 N. Scottsdale Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85254; or, Bureau of Jewish Education, 12701 N. Scottsdale Rd., Suite #206, Scottsdale, AZ 85254. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



Helen Deitch

Helen Deitch, age 88, passed away September 25, 2004 in Scottsdale. She was born in New York City and has been a resident of the Valley for the past 8 years. Helen was a retired secretary for New York Life Insurance Co.

Survivors include her daughter Sandy (Howard) Reichsfeld; son Alan (Tonni) Deitch; grandchildren Gary and Scott Horowitz, Evan (Lisa) Deitch, Steven Deitch and Adam (Jackie) Deitch and great-grandchildren Lucas, Jacob, Jordan, Max, Justin, Domenica, and Michaela.

Graveside funeral services were held Monday, September 27th in Phoenix. Contributions in her memory are suggested to Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center Senior Center, 1805 W. Montebello Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85015.
