President Bush's show of strengthEditor:In response to the letter critical of Bush's policy concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict ("Give Kerry a chance," Jewish News, Sept. 24): The courageous Bush doctrine of liberating and starting the democratization process in Iraq and Bush's willingness to delegitimize Arafat have led to a change in tone among many Arabs. Some elements of the fabled Palestinian street in Gaza have for the first time exploded with denunciations of Arafat's tyrannical, corrupt rule in favor of a different kind of leadership. The Arab Times of Kuwait has written that Arafat should quit. The Gulf News in Dubai has reported that Palestinians are saying that Arafat is the problem as he has robbed them, failed them and kept them impoverished. The Iranian-born commentator Amir Taheri sees the beginning of an uprising against Arafat as a new kind of "intifada aimed at bringing down another Arab tyranny." There would not have been such talk about discontent and a realization of the need for reform without President Bush's show of strength. Irma Epstein Sun City West Thanks to loyal customersEditor:You have probably already read an article announcing a "parting of the ways" between The Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus and The Cafe/Danziger Kosher Caterers of Arizona, Inc. I'd just like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our regular, loyal patrons and customers (you know who you are ... and so do we!) for your friendship, encouragement and support. A special thanks goes out to the observant/Orthodox community (you traveled farther than anyone to support us), and a "yesher koach" to the entire local rabbinical community. Every single rabbi in this community (really) came around, supported us, and encouraged their congregants to do so. For this we are very grateful. My future goals include continuing to be a part of the local Jewish community, and to have some type of positive impact on its already existing vibrancy. Raymond B. Hirsh Scottsdale Don't expect preferential treatmentEditor:From Uriel Helman's report "Israelis sue the U.S. government" (Jewish News, Sept. 17), I quote: "he and his friends piled into a company van ... to find a better vantage point to photograph the historic terrorist attack." Their suit strikes me as chutzpah. Working illegally here in the U.S., those Israelis should have sat on their tuchis' instead of rushing to photograph this "historic terrorist attack." Why should they have been treated differently from any other Middle Easterner at that critical time? Alexander B. White Scottsdale
