People on the moveDeborah Sussman Susser has joined the staff of Jewish News as a staff writer. She earned a master's degree in fine arts from the University of Virginia and is a former editor at Scholastic Mag-azines. She currently serves as a free-lance writer to The Washington Post, Art in America and Publishers Weekly and is a regular commentator for KJZZ, the Valley's NPR affiliate.Rachel Schwager of Tucson has been elected to serve as the 60th international president of the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization's girls division, B'nai B'rith Girls. The first person from Arizona to be chosen for the position, Schwager was elec-ted by 350 members of the organization at the international convention, which is held annually in Starlight, Penn. Alissa Mandel, a local psychotherapist and certified social worker, appeared as an expert on the Dr. Phil show on Sept. 16. Mandel, a New York native who moved to the Valley two years ago, was contacted by the show earlier in the year to provide family therapy to a local family. She worked with the family for four months on issues dealing with marital relations, parent-child relationships and career goals. Damon Chetson has been named vice president of the Goldwater Institute. He previously served as director of education programs at the Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University. Chetson holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in history from the University of Virginia. The Jewish War Veterans Post and the Valley of the Sun Ladies Auxiliary #194 were honored at the organization's national convention in August. The chapter received three plaques and 14 certificates for various projects. Jay and Karen Sadow of Jaykar Jewelers, and their children, recently attended the Independent Jewelers Organization's semi-annual conference in Chicago. While there, the Sadows met with Antwerp diamond cutter Gabi Tolkowsky, one of the world's most famous diamond cutters. Fairytale Brownies was named by bizAZ Magazine in their September/October 2004 issues as one of the "Coolest Companies" to work for in Arizona. The company has been baking brownies from scratch since 1992 and was recognized for having an exciting product, a funky office, great employee perks, a unique approach to business and hot growth. |
