Simchat Torah celebrations
Temple Chai congregants welcome new Torah Temple Chai welcomes its new Torah during the synagogue's Simchat Torah celebration Thursday, Oct. 7, at the synagogue, 4645 E. Marilyn Road, Phoenix. The program begins at 5 p.m. with a celebration for children ages 6 weeks through kindergarten. Families are invited to bring a dairy meal for a picnic in the Jerusalem Courtyard at 5:30 p.m. and then view the rabbi unrolling the entire Torah scroll in a Simchat Torah service at 6:45 p.m. Following the service, the Chai Tones, the synagogue band, will lead a session of spirited dancing and singing. Call 602-971-1234. East Valley celebration Chabad of the East Valley will host a Simchat Torah celebration 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Chabad Center for Jewish Life, 3855 W. Ray Road, Suite 6, Chandler. All children will receive Torah flags and Torah scrolls. Special hakafot will include anyone who has lived at least one year in Israel, Holocaust survivors and their children, grandparents and children. Call 480-855-4333. Solel unrolls scroll Temple Solel will celebrate Simchat Torah 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, by surrounding participants with the unrolled Torah scroll. An oneg follows. Congregants and clergy will read parts of the Torah as the scroll is unrolled in the social hall. The synagogue will also have a Simchat Torah service 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7. Call 480-991-7414. Simchat Torah at ASU Students at Arizona State University can join in a Simchat Torah dinner and celebration with Hillel 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, Hillel Jewish Student Center, 1012 S. Emanuel band Rabbi Andrew Straus will unroll the Torah around the sanctuary and do a five-minute reading of the entire Torah 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at Temple Emanuel, 5801 S. Rural Road, Tempe. The synagogue's first-graders will be honored as they celebrate their consecration into Jewish education, and music will be provided by the synagogue's Rural St. Klezmer Band. Call 480-838-1414.
