Obituaries

Milton Bernstein

Milton Bernstein of Phoenix died Aug. 25, 2004. He was 86. He was born in New York City and moved to Arizona in 1994. He was a retired attorney and CPA. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Har Zion Congregation.

Survivors include his sons, Jerry of Phoenix and Alan of Hillsboro, N.J.; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Green Acres Cemetery, with Rabbi Mark Bisman officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Frederic Dolgonos

Frederic Dolgonos of Scottsdale died Aug. 28, 2004. He was 85. He was born in Philadelphia and moved to Arizona in 2002. He was retired owner of women's apparel stores. He served in the U.S. Marines and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Masons.

Survivors include his wife, Ida; daughters, Lynn Blumenthal of Scottsdale and Joan Gross of Elverson, Penn.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens, with Rabbi Alan Berlin officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Celia Jean Newman

Celia Jean Newman, age 71, passed away at home in Phoenix on August 30, 2004 after a long illness. She was born in Rosebud, Texas and has been a resident of Phoenix for the past 38 years. She was a member of Beth Joseph Congregation. Survivors include her son M. Max Newman; daughters Ilana Newman and Adina Newman; sister Rosalie Bonaparte; sister-in-law Sarah Newman; and niece Renee Bonaparte. She was preceded in death by her husband Alex and son Ariel.

Funeral services were held August 31st at Sinai Mortuary Chapel in Phoenix. Contributions in her memory are suggested to Beth Joseph Congregation, 515 E. Bethany Home Road, Phoenix, AZ 85012.



Rosalie Stein Weckstein

Rosalie Stein Weckstein, 99, of Scottsdale, passed away on August 29, 2004. She celebrated her 99th birthday surrounded by her children with a birthday cake ten days early at her request. Rosalie was born in New York City, raised in Newark, NJ and resided in Canton, OH for 42 years before moving to Arizona from Miami, FL in 1982.

After graduating from college, she was briefly a teacher before marrying Samson Morris, her husband of 62 years, who died in August of 1989. She was a life member of Brandeis University National Women's Committee and the National Council of Jewish Women, active in Hadassah, ORT, Temples in Canton and Miami, and volunteered her time to the American Heart Association in Miami, FL as well as serving as a docent for the Scottsdale Center for the Arts and the Sylvia Plotkin Judaica Museum.

Survivors include three loving sons, Stephen (Beverly) of Scottsdale, Lou (Lynda) of Springfield, MO and Phoenix and Donald (Caryl) of Dayton, Ohio; brother Dr. George (Agnes) Stein of London, England, 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and Barbara Bagwell, her devoted companion and caregiver. Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, August 31st in Scottsdale. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Sylvia Plotkin Judaica Museum, c/o Temple Beth Israel, 10460 N. 56th St., Scottsdale, AZ 85253, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.
