Michelle Steinberg will begin as executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council, an organization of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix, on Sept. 7. She will replace Cathy Wolf, who has moved out of the country and held the position for more than three years.

Cantor David Niles, an interfaith wedding specialist, was a presenter on the components of an interfaith wedding ceremony at an interfaith conference on lifecycle events, Aug. 6-8, at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, Calif. The conference was sponsored by the Dovetail Conference for Interfaith Families.

Shirley Brohner was the guest of honor at Temple B'rith Shalom Sisterhood's annual member luncheon and 20th birthday celebration, held July 12 at the historic Hassayampa Inn in Prescott. She received the Miriam Award, life membership, and a circle of service pin. Rabbi David Lipman installed and blessed the new board and other members received certificates of participation.

Debra Thompson has been appointed vice chancellor of business services at the Maricopa Community Colleges District. She has been with the district since 1994. Before coming to the district, Thompson worked in the New York City Office of Management and Budget and in the New York City office of the comptroller.

Dr. Phil Randolph, president of Glendale Community College, who has served the Maricopa Community Colleges District for the last three decades, announced his retirement from the district, effective Jan. 15, 2005, or until a new president is hired and on board.

Matthew Ortega has been named director of Governmental Affairs at the Maricopa Community Colleges District. His appointment is effective Sept. 13. He currently serves as a consultant for Strategic Communications at Godec, Randall & Associates and was previously the assistant executive director for public affairs at the Arizona Board of Regents.
