Joshua Taylor Laven, son of Ava and Steven Laven of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah Aug. 28, 2004, at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are Myrna and Victor Taylor of Glendale; Bernice Laven of Scottsdale; and the late Sanford Laven.

Joshua attends Desert Shadows Middle School. His hobby is basketball.

For his mitzvah project, Joshua collected cans for the Paradise Valley Food Bank.



Dana Rose Greenbaum, daughter of JoAnne and Mark Greenbaum of Scottsdale, will become a bat mitzvah Aug. 28, 2004, at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are the late Beatrice and David Luper; and the late Gilda and Melvyn Greenbaum.

Dana attends Desert Shadows Middle School. Her hobbies are dance and swimming.

For her mitzvah project, Dana volunteered at Mesquite Public Library and Watkins Overflow Shelter.



Justin Michael Parkhurst, son of Michelle and Randy Parkhurst of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah Aug. 28, 2004, at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are Arleen and Fred Handel of Scottsdale; and Nancie Parkhurst of Moline, Ill.

Great-grandparent is Ettie Handel of Scottsdale.

Justin attends Sunrise Middle School. His hobbies are baseball, soccer, swimming and reading.

For his mitzvah project, Justin volunteered at Scottsdale Place, a residential home for the elderly, by spending time with the residents.



Zachary Benjamin Cohen, son of Stephanie and Stephen Cohen of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah Aug. 28, 2004, at Har Zion Congregation.

Grandparents are Elaine Shapiro of Phoenix; Diana Flax of Carefree; the late Irving Shapiro; the late Herb Cohen; and the late Jerry Flax.

Zachary attends Mountain Trails Middle School. His hobbies are baseball and movies.

For his mitzvah project, Zachary raised money for the Zachary Cohen Celebration of Life Fund, benefiting the child life department at Phoenix Children's Hospital.

Adam Michael Bongiorno, son of Deborah Weinstein and Val Bongiorno of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah Aug. 28, 2004, at Ruach Hamidbar.

Grandparents are Sylvia and Jerome Weinstein of Del Rey Beach, Fla.; and Mary and Joe Bongiorno of Rockville Centre, N.Y.

Julian attends The King David School. His hobbies are baseball and cars.



Julian Joseph Bongiorno, son of Deborah Weinstein and Val Bongiorno of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah Aug. 28, 2004, at Ruach Hamidbar.
