She was a homemaker.Survivors include her daughters, Margo of Phoenix, and Dana Kern of Petaluma, Calif.; sons, Rick and Jon of West Bloomfield, Mich.; sister, Carla Moss of Waterford, Mich.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Thomas Road, Phoenix 85016. Canna LeibovitzCanna "Kate" Leibovitz of Phoenix died Aug. 13, 2004. She was 98. She was born in New Haven, Conn., and moved to Arizona in 1960. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Hadassah and NA'AMAT USA.Survivors include her daughters, Betty Weiss of North Egremont, Mass., and Esther Riester of Oakland, Calif.; son, Sherman of Paradise Valley; sister, Sylvia Diamond of Boca Raton, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Arnold of Scottsdale died Aug. 16, 2004. He was 97. He was born in Cleveland and moved to Arizona in 1984. He was a retired dentist.Survivors include his daughter, Lois Arnold of Phoenix; sons, Samuel and Frederic Arnold of Cin-cinnati; sister, Bertha Weiner; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services were held at Green Acres Cemetery, with Rabbi Irwin Wiener officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Philip BarkanPhilip Barkan, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on August 15, 2004. Born in south Bend, Indiana on August 4, 1919, Phil is survived by his wife of 61 years, Yoland; daughters Beverly Mitchell (Mel) and Wendy Abrahams; and son, Tony Barkan (Cindy); and grandchildren, Emily, Darren, Tyler, Carly, Benjamin and Andrew. A Phoenix resident since 1945, Phil worked as the Credit Manager of Arizona Land Research Corporation. Phil was a WWII veteran, a member of Temple Beth Israel and B'nai B'rith, and an avid golfer. His gentle nature, good humor and easy manner were part of what made Phil a special person to all who knew him.Funeral services where held Wednesday, August 18, 2004 in Phoenix. Shirley Lillian LevensShirley Lillian Levens, age 83, passed away August 10, 2004 in Scottsdale, AZ. Survivors include her son Martin (Barbara) Levens; daughter Ellen (Michael) Sturm; brother Jerry (Roz) Eisenberg; and grandchildren Phillip and Alison Levens, and Jason, Natasha, Maria and Tanya Sturm. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Franklin Levens, mother Bessie Eisenberg and grandson Adam Sturm. George ShindlerGeorge Shindler, age 89, passed away August 15, 2004 in Scottsdale, AZ. He was born in Ismay, Montana and moved to Phoenix 52 years ago from Iowa. He was a retired store manager and salesman, a veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Europe during WWII. George was a graduate of Phoenix College and a member of Beth El Congregation. Survivors include his wife Anne, daughters Joan (Paul) Zuckerbrow and Susan (Randy) Shindler-Montello, sister Ethel (Jack) Blaha, brother Edward (Sue) Shindler, and grandchildren Lisa Zuckerbrow and Rochelle Keele.Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 18th in Sinai Mortuary Chapel. Julia (Dasha) ToddJulia (Dasha) Todd, age 98, passed away August 13, 2004 in Phoenix, AZ. She was born in Russia, lived for many years in Cheyenne, Wyoming and was also a resident of Phoenix for many years. Julia was a college graduate with a degree in law and also owned and operated a jewelry store before retiring. She is survived by her brother Harry Shapiro. Julia had been a guiding light to the Phoenix Hebrew Academy School, life-time member of Hadassah and Amit, a supporting member of Kivel Campus of Care, Weitzman Institute of Science, Russian Resettlement Program, and the Phoenix Community Kollel.Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 15th in Sinai Mortuary Chapel in Phoenix.
