B'nai Mitzvah

Matthew Hunter Jankes, son of Ann and Barry Jankes of Phoenix, will become a bar mitzvah Aug. 21, 2004, at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are Leonard Jankes of Sun City West; Marcia Gorodnick of Phoenix; the late Dororthy Jankes; and the late Martin Gorodncik.

Matthew attends Explorer Middle School. His hobbies are baseball and football.

For his mitzvah project, Matthew coordinated and collected new and used sports equipment for the Boys and Girls Club.



Melissa Ann Islat, daughter of Maureen and Glenn Islat of Scottsdale, will become a bat mitzvah Aug. 21, 2004, at Temple Kol Ami.

Grandparents are Barbara and Martin Kite of Morton Grove, Ill.

Great-grandparent is Je-anne Kerr of Northbrook, Ill.

Melissa attends Desert Canyon Middle School. Her hobbies are dancing and singing.

For her mitzvah project, Melissa collected food for a local food bank.



Alexander C. Raskin, son of Michele Scheiner-Raskin and David Raskin of Paradise Valley, will become a bar mitzvah Aug. 21, 2004, at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are Gloria and Elliot Raskin of Tucson; Helen Scheiner of Queens, N.Y.; and the late Aron Scheiner.

Alexander attends All Saints. His hobbies are sports, music, reading fantasy novels, video games and history.

For his mitzvah project, Alexander helped with a renovation project at Maggie's Place, worked at the Paradise Valley Emergency Food Bank and helped with book distribution for underprivileged children.



Ariana Renée Nassan, daughter of Lana and Sander Nassan of Phoenix, will become a bat mitzvah Aug. 21, 2004, at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are Kathy and Curt Hanson of Good Thunder, Minn.; and the late Roz and Morris Nassan.

Great-grandparents are Louis and Walter Birr of Good Thunder, Minn.

Ariana attends Ingleside Middle School. Her hobbies are dogs, reading and playing the drums.

For her mitzvah project, Ariana raised money and awareness for ARMDI, fed the homeless, collected books and clothes for a crisis center and collected funds for Maricopa County Animal Shelter.
