Genetic disorder educationEditor:I was delighted to read Dr. Steven Wininger's article on Jewish genetic diseases and their impact on family planning (Jewish News, June 25). The Council For Jews With Special Needs and Jewish Family & Children's Service collaborate on the "Greater Phoenix Jewish Genetic Diseases Project." With a grant from the Jewish Women's Endowment Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation, we sent information on Jewish genetic diseases, screening and genetic counseling to 160 local physicians and rabbis most likely to see Jewish adults of childbearing age. This fall, the committee will offer free presentations to Jewish organizations, synagogues and schools. We have also scheduled a Community Health Fair to offer genetic screening and tests on April 3, 2005, at the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus. I can be reached at 480-629-5343 or becca@cjsn.org.
