Obituaries

Lawrence Shaffer

Lawrence Shaffer of Scottsdale died May 9, 2004. He was 62. He was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona from Hawaii in 1998. He was radio talk-show host. He was a member of the United States Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn; daughters, Carey of Scottsdale and Lori Quenzer of Seattle; and stepsons, Morris and Dale Breeze of Hawaii.

Private services were held. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Anne D. Bernstein

Anne D. Bernstein, age 82, passed away May 9, 2004. She was born in New York City and moved to the Valley 10 years ago from her native New York. Anne taught school in South Bronx, N.Y., was a member of Har Zion Congregation, a life member of Hadassah and a member of NA'AMAT USA.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years Milton; sons Jerry (Marlene) Bernstein and Alan (Susie) Bernstein; sister Arline (Martin) Wrona; grandchildren Ari, Brian, Emily, and Jocelyn; and former daughter-in-law Jean Marcus. She was preceded in death by her brother William Goodman and her parents Beatrice and Harry.

Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, May 12th. Contributions in her memory are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 5111 N. Scottsdale Rd., #108, Scottsdale, AZ 85250. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



Bertha Karp

Bertha Karp, age 85, of Phoenix passed away May 7, 2004. Born in South Bend, Ind., she moved to Phoenix in 1959 from Milwaukee, Wis. Survivors include her children Gee Gee Berkowitz, Marty Karp and Barbi Gilboa, all of Phoenix; sisters Lillian Paley of Milwaukee and Harriet Green of Coral Gables, Fla.; three grand- children and three great-granddaughters.

Funeral services took place on Monday, May 10th in Phoenix and were officiated by Bertha's cousin, Rabbi Albert Plotkin. Contributions in her memory are requested to the Sylvia Plotkin Judaica Museum, c/o Temple Beth Israel, 10460 N. 56th St., Scottsdale, AZ 85253. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.
