Obituaries

Slain Glendale woman remembered

A memorial service for Yuliya Kumirova of Glendale was held April 15 at Phoenix Memorial Cemetery. Rabbi Dan Hayman officiated.

Kumirova, a 38-year-old teacher at Trevor G. Browne High School and Glendale Community College, disappeared Oct. 31, 2003. Her body was found April 9.

She moved to Arizona from Uzbekistan in the former Soviet Union. She is survived by her husband, Sergey; sons, Vladik and Dima; parents, Vera and Boris Babadzhanov of Glendale; and brother, Yiriy Babadzhanov.

Funeral arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Jerome Lobel

Jerome Lobel of Phoenix died April 21, 2004. He was 75. He was born in Canton, Ohio. He was a retired computer consultant. He was a founding member of the Arizona Sierra Club, a pilot and a member of the Civil Air Patrol.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Carrie Goelitz of Phoenix and Jana of Scottsdale; step-daughters, Nadia Lancy of Atlanta and Sonia Lancy of Scottsdale; brother, Leonard of Escandido; and two grandchildren.

Services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens, with Rabbi William C. Berk officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mor-tuary.

Julia Silverman

Julia Silverman of Scottsdale died April 22, 2004. She was 87. She moved to Arizona from South Carolina in 1993. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her daughters, Bernice Petrovsky of Prescott and Linda Silverman of New York; son, Steve of Scottsdale; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Green Acres Cemetery, with Cantor Andrew Mayer officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Lindsay Ann Schiffman

Lindsay Ann Schiffman, age 21, of Phoenix, passed away April 18, 2004. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on June 10, 1982. Lindsay is survived by her parents, Jack Schiffman and Karen Schiffman; sister, Melissa Schiffman; brother, Jason Schiffman; grandmother, Ruth Finn; aunt, Ellen Adelstein, uncle and aunt, David and Tammy Schultz; cousins, Aaron and Brian Schultz, Evan and Renee Adelstein, Tracey and Rick Levine, and Ilysha Adelstein; her beloved dog, Muggsy; and her huge circle of special friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sara and Irving Schiffman; grandfathers, Sam Finn and Louis Schultz; and uncle, Eugene Adelstein.

Lindsay, you were a one-of-a-kind person who had the ability to see things in a different light. Your zest for life, fun-loving nature, sweet smile, and boundless energy were uplifting to your family and friends. We are proud of you for all your accomplishments, independence, and strength. You will be in our hearts forever.

Herman Allen (Hal) Israel

Herman Allen (Hal) Israel, age 41, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2004. He was raised in Bethesda, Md., graduated from Georgetown University and received his JD from Yale University Law School. Following his graduation from law school, Hal moved to Phoenix where he was law clerk to Chief Justice Stanley Feldman. Hal was an active member of both the Arizona Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He practiced law in Phoenix with Lieberman, Dodge, Gerding & Anderson, Ltd.

Survivors include his parents Fred and Lesley, brother Sanford (Jennifer), wife Donna, son Evan William and dear friend Shannon Packard. Services were held April 26th in Phoenix, and interment is in Oxford, Md. Contributions may be made to the Anti-Defamation League, 3550 N. Anne Cooper-Tucker

Anne Cooper-Tucker, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2004. She leaves behind her husband, Henry; daughters, Sheila and Edye; sons-in-law, Toby and David; grandchildren, Stacy, Joshua and Bradley; great-granddaughter, Ella Ruoho; and her brother, Lloyd. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Anne will be missed by all who knew her. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2004 at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, 401 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale.
