Despite the fact that the founder of the Tzedakah Fund, Stanley Mayersohn, died on Jan. 16, the fund is going strong. The Tzedakah Fund recently contributed $25,500 to nine small-scale social service providers in Israel.

"I want to thank everyone for their continual support and keeping it alive and a strong memorial to Stan and Betty Mayersohn," said Elaine Hammerschlag, Tzedakah Fund co-president. Since its inception by Mayersohn in 1984, the fund has contributed more than $420,000 to various causes.

This year's recipients include Woman to Woman - the Jerusalem Shelter for Battered Women, which provided shelter for more than 56 women and 100 children in 2003; the Linda Feldman Rape Crisis Center; and Clara Hammer - Chicken Lady, a 95-year-old woman who has been providing Shabbat dinners for the Jerusalem poor since 1980.

For information about the fund, contact Hammerschlag, 602-955-7955. To make a contribution, make checks payable to "Tzedakah Fund" and mail to Tzedakah Fund, P.O. Box 9806, Phoenix 85068.
