Obituaries

Viola Stern

Viola Stern, age 87, passed away on April 4, 2004 in Scottsdale. Born in Palmyra, Wis., she lived in Milwaukee and moved to Phoenix in 1994 from Albuquerque, N.M.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Darryl (Helen) Stern; daughter Mimi (Gordon) Aronson; grandchildren Jamie Beth Aronson, Dr. Ariann Gottschalk, and Miles Stern; and great-granddaughter Karenna Stern. Sylvia S. Kaplan-Turbin

Sylvia S. Kaplan-Turbin, age 80, passed away April 5, 2004. She was born in Chicago and has been a resident of the Valley for the past 32 years. Survivors include her companion, Leonard Share, sons Philip (Janice) Kaplan, Ronald (Michele) Kaplan, and Kenneth (Sheri) Kaplan, brother Leo Siegan, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 33 years, Lawrence C. Kaplan, until his death, and her second husband of 19 years, Hubert L. Turbin, until his death.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 8th at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, Phoenix. Contributions in her memory may be made to Scleroderma Foundation, 12 Kent Way, Suite #101, Byfield, MA 01922. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.
