Obituaries

Louise Ann Gartner Reiss

Louise Ann Gartner Reiss of Scottsdale died March 12, 2004. She was 83. She was born in Hancock, Mich., and was a winter visitor. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband Ted; daughter, Karen Lee of Denver; son Jack of Anchorage, Alaska; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Sinai Chapel. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Barry Eglin

Barry Eglin of Scottsdale died March 13, 2004. He was 70. He was born in Philadelphia and moved to Arizona from Pennsylvania in 1972. He was a real estate investor. He was active in the Arizona Jewish Historical Society and B'nai Brith.

Survivors include his wife, Florence; sons, Philip of Phoenix and Monty of Scottsdale; sister, Ren‚ Handel of Delray Beach, Fla.; brother, Marvin of Ambler, Penn.; and one grandchild.

Services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Regina Salomon Fox

Regina Salomon Fox, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully on Sunday, March 14, 2004, her 106th birthday, just hours after her family celebrated her life with songs and stories.

Regina was born in Kudlovics, Humenne, Hungary in 1898. She immigrated to Chicago in 1920, where she met her future husband, Fred Fox, whom she survived. Surviving Regina are her three daughters: Julie (Syd) Velen, Roz (Arnold) Borker, and Pattie (Herman) Neuberger; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Regina was fondly called "Bubbie" by everyone. She lived for her family, valued tzedakah (charitable giving) and earned the respect of all who knew her. Mark J. Kaplan

Mark J. Kaplan, age 60, of Scottsdale passed away on March 13, 2004. He was born and raised in Philadelphia and lived in Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., Phoenix, Hartford, Conn., and New Orleans.

Mark was an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board for 30 years before returning to Scottsdale in 1999. He served on the Boards of the Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation and Tulane Hillel. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed participating in as well as watching sports, especially golf. Mark was an exceptional person who was respected and adored by all who were lucky enough to know him.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 39 years Hannah; daughter Lisa Kaplan of Los Angeles; sons Paul (Ariane) and Josh, both of Phoenix; and sister Ellensue Gross of Philadelphia.

Hyman Lewis Zipp

Hyman Lewis Zipp peacefully joined his beloved wife Helen on March 11, 2004. Hy and Helen lived in Scottsdale from 1976 until 1999 when they moved to San Diego to be close to family. Warm memories of his love, faith, compassion, humor, generosity and strength will forever be with us.
