Obituaries

Irving A. Paiken

Irving A. Paiken of Scottsdale died Feb. 18, 2004. He was 94. He was born in Russia and moved to Arizona from Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1980. He was a retired insurance agent.

Survivors include his daughters, Marsha Rotmi-strovsky of Gilbert, Joyce Schwartz of Livingston, N.J., and Carolyn Nag-ournay; six grandchildren; and seven great-grand-children.

Services were held at Green Acres Cemetery. Arrangements were ma de by Messinger Indian School Mortuary.



Arlene Zelvy

Arlene Zelvy of Scottsdale died Feb. 19, 2004. She was 85. She was born in Cleveland and moved to Arizona from Ohio in 1996. She was a medical tech-nologist.

Survivors include her son Richard of Phoenix; daughters Linda Ornstein of Paradise Valley, and Ellen Barnett and Debbie Sagall, both of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Anne Katz of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; brother, Sol Tiktin of Cleveland; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary.

Contributions are sug-gested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014.



Lillian Fleishman

Lillian Fleishman, age 86, formerly of Philadelphia, died February 7, 2004 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Funeral services were held February 9th at Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale.

Mrs. Fleishman was born in Paris, France. She and her husband Jacob (Jack), were residents of Philadelphia before making their home in Scottsdale 30 years ago. They owned shoe stores in Philadelphia and Mesa, Arizona before retiring. She was a long-time member and sisterhood president of Har Zion Congregation.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob (Jack) and sister, Edith Marcus.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Donna Fleishman of Atlanta, and daughter and son-in-law, Randy Stone and Jim Hahn of Boston and Scottsdale. Other survivors include her sister, Hannah Rubin of Philadelphia; brother and sister-in-law Sam and Edie Stark of Miami; granddaughters, Jessica Stone of San Francisco and Marissa Fleishman of New York, and nieces and nephews.

Robert M. Friedman

Robert M. Friedman, age 55, passed away February 18, 2004 in Scottsdale. He was born in Philadelphia and has been a resident of the Valley for the past 25 years. He was past President of Temple Solel and past President of Specialty Advertising Association of Arizona.

Survivors include his wife Brenda Friedman; sons Robert (Samantha) Wallack and Jonathan (Dawn) Wallack; and brother Stuart Friedman.

Funeral services were held February 20th at Temple Beth Israel. Contributions in his memory may be made to Temple Beth Israel, 10460 N. 56th St., Scottsdale, AZ 85253 or Arizona Humane Society, 9226 N. 13th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85021. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



Josephine M. Grossman

Josephine M. Grossman, age 89, passed away February 22, 2004 in Glendale. She was born in New York City and has been a resident of the Valley for the past 58 years.

Survivors include her daughters Deborah (Kenneth) Harris, Janet Axler, Marilyn Berg and Nancy Grossman; son Michael Grossman; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services and interment were held Monday, February 23rd, in Phoenix. Contributions in her memory are suggested to The New Shul, 14425 N. Scottsdale Rd., Suite 100-200, Scottsdale, AZ 85254; or The Jess Schwartz Jewish Community High School, 4645 E. Marilyn Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85032. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



Harold Levit

Harold Levit, age 82. Born in Cleveland, resided in Scottsdale. Beloved husband for 58 years of Frieda. Father of Leslie Friedman (Mark) of Los Angeles and Barry Levit of Fairbanks, Alaska. Grandfather of Daniel Friedman (Kristin), Ellen Friedman, Timothy Levit and Casey Levit. Great-grandfather of Rebecca Friedman and Sarah Friedman. An entrepreneur and really good guy, devoted to his family and friends. To honor his memory, and to help those in need, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the SOVA Food Pantry Program, 13425 Ventura Blvd., Suite 200, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423.

Services were held at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles on Thursday, February 26, 2004.
