ObituariesJanet Goldberg KaneJanet Goldberg Kane of Las Cruces, N.M., died Feb. 7, 2004. She was 95. She was born in Lodz, Poland. She was a retired bookkeeper and administrator for a hardware store. She was treasurer of the Paterson chapter of Mizrachi Women's Organi-zation; an officer of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Miriam Barnert Memorial Hebrew Free School; and a member of Temple Beth-El and its Sisterhood. She was a frequent visitor to the Valley when her son, Rabbi Gerald Kane, now of Las Cruces, N.M., served as the director of Jewish education at Temple Beth Israel.Survivors include her son, Gerald of Las Cruces, N.M.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services were held at Graham Mortuary Chapel, with Rabbi Larry Bach and Cantor Caitlin Bromberg officiating. Arrangements were made by Graham Mortuary. He was born in Brooklyn and moved to Arizona from Connecticut in 1971. He was a business executive in the hotel industry. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.Survivors include his wife, Marcia; daughter, Janice Bower of Phoenix; sons, Howard of Woodlands, Texas, and Eliot of San Rafael, Calif.; and six grandchildren. Services were held at Sinai Mortuary Chapel, with Rabbi Albert Plotkin officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. He was born in Romania and moved to Arizona from New York in 1977. He was a retired retail store owner. He was a Holocaust survivor and served in the Israeli army.Survivors include his wife, Esther; daughters, Rachel Turet of Chino Valley and Franny Russo of Raleigh, N.C.; his sons, Mark of Phoenix and Paul of San Diego, Calif.; one sister; two brothers; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services were held at Phoenix Memorial Park, with Rabbi Arthur Lavinsky officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014. Jay Michael CooperJay Michael Cooper of Phoenix died February 4, 2004; he was 59. He moved to Phoenix in 1974 from Philadelphia. Jay was an obstetrician/gynecologist. Jay was loved by his wife Joyce; daughters Jenna (Steffen Lipofsky), Jill (Matthew Lefferman) and Jessica; parents Fannie and Joseph; sisters Janice Zuckerman and Joan Cooper; brother Jeffrey Cooper; and grandchildren Maia and Joshua Lefferman.Services were held at Beth El Congregation on Friday, February 6, 2004. She was born in Watertown, S.D. on November 24, 1962. She graduated from Arizona State University in 1985 with a degree in communications. Her love for people and animals was known throughout her entire life. She was very active in the Jewish community and will be greatly missed.She is survived by her parents, Gerald and Georgia Fishman of Watertown, S.D.; brother Brad (Karen) Fishman of Watertown, S.D.; sisters Amy (Larry) Greenfeld of Paradise Valley, Ariz., Stacy (DeLaine) Russell of Fairfax Station, Va., Emily (Michael) Novick of Las Vegas, Nev., Jody (Octavio) Ortega of Chandler, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews - the joys of her life. Services were held at Temple Solel with Rabbi Alan Berlin officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Leonard Yale MillmanLeonard Yale Millman, age 78, passed away February 9, 2004 in Phoenix. He was born in Omaha, Neb., lived in Denver, and has been a resident of the Valley for the past 20 years.He is survived by his wife Elaine Millman; son Scott Millman; daughters Lisa (Bob) Gilliam, Kerre Millman and Laure Millman; sister Barbara Lovitz and three grandchildren. Leonard will be missed by his family and multitude of friends. Funeral services and interment were held Wednesday, February 11, 2004 in Denver.
