Day schools promote education

All five Jewish day schools in the Valley joined together on Jan. 25 for the first Day School Fair.

Held in conjunction with summer camp registration for the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center, the fair was designed to promote day school education in the Valley, with representatives from all of the schools - Phoenix Hebrew Academy, Jess Schwartz Jewish Community High School, Pardes Jewish Day School, The King David School and the Tri-City Jewish Community Center Day School - setting up informational booths.

Prior to the event, kindergarten teachers from all of the schools met with parents of preschoolers to give them a picture of what Jewish day school education options are available.

Diana Young of the Phoenix Hebrew Academy said the best part of the day was seeing the day schools working together.

"Our philosophies as schools may be different, but we all believe in one basic principle, educating Jewish children," she said. "Twenty years ago when I came to Arizona, I never dreamt that there would be so many alternatives for day school education."

Linda Zell, day school marketing coordinator, said there will be a day school booth set up at other local events, including the Tu B'Shevat Festival and the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center's Tradeshow 2004.
