Vaad increases kosher supervision

The Greater Phoenix Vaad Hakashruth has expanded its kosher supervision at the Kivel Campus of Care in Phoenix.

The facility will now have a mashgiach (kashrut overseer) present approximately 20 hours per week, said Rabbi David Rebibo, rabbinic administrator. Previously, a mashgiach would stop by from time to time to make sure kashrut guidelines were being followed.

Funds from the Jewish Community Foundation helped make this supervision increase possible, Rebibo said.

"The community should feel good about it and the foundation is to be praised for what its doing," Rebibo said. "It is another sign of improvement in the overall kashrut area and something we've been working on for a long time."

"Being kosher is a fundamental part of Kivel's tradition," said Ira Shulman, CEO of Kivel. "As with all operations of Kivel, we try to do everything as well as we can."

Kivel is an assisted living facility at 3020 N. 36th St., Phoenix. The Vaad, founded in 1965, is the local central council that oversees compliance with Jewish dietary laws.
