Readers voice support for presidential candidates

With the results of the Iowa Caucus, the Democratic presidential field is starting to narrow. Yet, no clear front-runner exists. Jewish News asked members of the Jewish community to respond to the question, "Which candidate do you support and why?"

"I support Howard Dean. I like his style. He's very charismatic and confident with his opinions. He's sincere and able to defend his opinions. ... He has the possibility to defeat Bush. (While) I don't think he has enough foreign policy experience, he has more ability to build consensus."

Susan Assadi
Public relations, Scottsdale

"I plan on voting for the re-election of George W. Bush. I feel his actions against terror and the economy have vastly exceeded his predecessor in a fraction of the time in office. The president was forced to react quickly against terror and has stumbled a couple of times, but overall has stepped ahead without slipping back. He is also the best friend the State of Israel has at this time."
Samuel Rosenblatt
Correctional sergeant, Arizona Department of Corrections, Glendale

"I can't believe in the entire Jewish community of greater Phoenix you could not find one Jewish person who supports Howard Dean, as I do. There are plenty here in Sun Lakes, in case you are interested. ... He has much to recommend himself, including an amazing grassroots organization that includes formerly "non-political" people like myself, who are intent on reclaiming America from special interests."
Sheri Sinykin
Children's book author, Sun Lakes

"What candidate do I support for president? Howard Dean, of course. He is like a breath of fresh air. He is real. He is feisty. He is outspoken. He is not like the rest of the pack. Does he misspeak at times? Yes, but he is not a Washington politician. And when he rethinks his words, he says so. How refreshing."
Faye Frankel
Retired, Phoenix

"I am leaning towards Joe Lieberman because he is extremely qualified, competent and able-bodied. He is stronger in some areas and weaker in others. I am intrigued that he is Jewish and it would be fantastic to have someone as competent as Joe Lieberman to lead the country during these difficult times."
Robert Friedlander
Financial options trader, Scottsdale
