Kol Ami hires new rabbi

Rabbi Jordan E. Goldson has been hired to serve as the spiritual leader of Temple Kol Ami of Scottsdale beginning July 1, following the retirement of Rabbi B. Charles Herring, said Kol Ami President Steve Weitzenkorn.

Goldson was the founding rabbi of a 250-family Reform congregation, Temple B'nai Tikvah, in Calgary, Alberta, where he served from 1987-1999. He then spent a year studying in Israel and has served as the director of Hillel at California State University, Northridge for the past two years.

Goldson received his rabbinic ordination from Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in New York in 1987.

His communal activities have included serving as president of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, Canadian Region, from 1994-1996 and as chairman of the Calgary Rabbinical Council from 1990-1994.

He and wife Rebecca have two children: Tali, 13, and Gabriel, 11. Temple Kol Ami is located at 15030 N. 64th St., Scottsdale. Herring is the founding rabbi of Temple Kol Ami and a tribute to him and his wife Barbara will be held on May 1 at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Resort.
