Obituaries

Norma Brown

Norma Brown of Phoenix died Dec. 30, 2003. She was 86 years old. She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and moved to Arizona in 1953 from Florida. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Simon; daughter Laurie Folkman of Phoenix; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were held at National Memorial Cemetery with Rabbi Dr. Zev Wellins officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Southwest Autism Research Center, 1002 E. McDowell Road, Suite A, Phoenix 85006; and Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014.



Shirley Ann Miller

Shirley Ann Miller of Phoenix died Jan. 3, 2004. She was 69. She was born in Cleveland and moved to Arizona in 1959 from Ohio. She was a finance secretary. She read for Books on Tape and was an adult literacy program volunteer.

Survivors include her daughter, Halle of Phoenix; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Beth El Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014.



Israel Mednick

Israel B. Mednick of Scottsdale died Jan. 4, 2004. He was 81. He was born in Philadelphia and moved to Arizona in 1990 from New York. He was a retired chemical salesman and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Roslyn; son, Kenneth of San Francisco; sisters, Ann Lomazoff and Min Rothstein, both of Philadelphia; and two grandchildren.

Services were held at the V.A. cemetery. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Arizona Kidney Foundation, 4203 E. Indian School Road #140, Phoenix 85018.



Arthur Muller

Arthur R. Muller of Scottsdale died Jan. 4, 2004. He was 90. He was born in New York and moved to Arizona in 1979. He was a retired accountant for the import/export industry.

Survivors include his daughters, Elise Kesner of New York and Marian Muller Levy of Scottsdale; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by Messinger Indian School Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014.



Harriet Greenberg

Harriet F. Greenberg of Scottsdale died Jan. 7, 2004. She was 69. She was born in Decatur, Ill., and moved to Arizona in 1983 from Illinois. She was a retired restaurateur.

Survivors include her husband, Max; her daughters, Debby Greenberg Mayer of Phoenix and Carol Gall of St. Louis; son, David of Scottsdale; sisters, Mildred Malyjurek of Chandler and Aileen Rowand of Orlando, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Services are being held today (Friday, Jan. 9) at Green Acres Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, 85014.



Jeanette Davidson

Jeanette Davidson, age 99, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2004. Jen was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on June 13, 1904. She moved to Phoenix in 1937 with her husband, Dean, daughter, Norma, and son, Bud.

Jen was a member of Temple Beth Israel for 64 years. She belonged to Temple Sisterhood and was an enthusiastic participant, especially in occasions that entailed cooking and baking. She was a member of Hadassah, The Order of the True Sisters, Kivel Auxiliary. She had been a Life Member of City of Hope and CARIH.

Jen was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dean S. Davidson; by her brothers, Mickey Pitlor and Al Pitlor; and her sister, Fanny Lyman. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Ken Sadick, and by her son and daughter-in-law, Bud and Sande Davidson. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Linda Sadick Wolfe, Keith J. Davidson, Gary D. Davidson and Judith; and by her great-grandchildren, Brian Wolfe, Sarah Wolfe, Lauren Davidson and Gordon. She is survived, also, by two nieces, Doris Chesler and Evelyn Bourne.

Jen was a generous and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her family and friends, but she will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Tootsie Pie.

A graveside service was held Thursday, January 8, 2004, at Temple Beth Israel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jen's name to the Dean S. Davidson Children's Library Fund at Temple Beth Israel, 10460 N. 56th St., Scottsdale, AZ 85253.



David Bernard Lipschultz

David Bernard Lipschultz, age 33, a Phoenix native, died tragically in a skiing accident in Aspen. Colo. on January 3, 2004. He is survived by his loving wife Juliana; his mother Marilyn Mitchell (Donn Kessler); father Allen (Susan) Lipschultz; his devoted siblings Jeffrey (Naomi) Lipschultz, Frank (Margarita), Janet and Adam; and his grandmother Inez Lipschultz.

David was a gifted athlete, winning his state high school tennis championship, and was named to the national tennis team. He graduated from the University of Arizona and received his graduate degree from Columbia University. He was an accomplished freelance writer for many publications including The New York Times and USA Today. In his 33 years, David experienced life to the fullest, traveling extensively. He was loved by all his friends and family here and throughout the world.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 7, 2004 in Sinai Mortuary Chapel in Phoenix. Contributions in David's memory may be made to Temple Beth Sholom, 208 Madrona St., Chula Vista, CA 91910.



Henrietta Miller

Henrietta Miller, age 84, passed away January 3, 2004 in Phoenix. She was born in Pottstown, Pa. and was a resident of Philadelphia for 70 years before moving to the Valley 10 years ago. Henrietta was a member of Temple Beth Shalom of Sun City and an active member and volunteer for Hadassah.

Survivors include her daughters, Marcia (Allen) Bachrad of Phoenix and Lynne (Jerry) Baron of Killingworth, Conn., and two grandchildren. Funeral services and interment were held January 7, 2004 in Pennsylvania. Contributions in her memory may be made to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 3 Forest St., New Canaan, CT 06840. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



Dr. Bernard S. Rosenblat

Dr. Bernard S. Rosenblat, 90, passed away on December 29, 2003. He is survived by his loving wife Edith, of 63 years; his daughter Karen Rosenblat, formerly of Boston and now residing in Scottsdale; and son Kenneth Rosenblat of San Francisco.

Bernard served in the United States Army during World War II, and was proudly at the Battle of the Bulge. He retired as a full Colonel, receiving two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. In Buffalo, N.Y., Dr. Rosenblat practiced Oral Surgery and also served as President of the Board of Education during the 1960's, where he actively promoted school integration, access for the handicapped and driver's education. Upon retiring to Scottsdale, he was an active volunteer with local hospitals, St. Vincent de Paul and Temple Solel.

Services were held December 30, 2003 at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Scottsdale.
