Obituaries

Rose Norban

Rose Norban of Phoenix died Dec. 19, 2003. She was 93. She was born in New York City and moved to Arizona in 1973 from New Jersey. She was a saleswoman and bookkeeper in the fabrics business.

Survivors include her sons, Larry of Phoenix and Arnold of Peoria; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Beth El Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Kivel Campus of Care Center, 3020 N. 36th St., Phoenix 85018.



Augusta Barr

Augusta Barr of Glendale died Dec. 20, 2003. She was 96. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona in 1978 from New Jersey. She was a homemaker. She was a former member of Beth El Congregation.

Survivors include her sons, Robert and Marvin, both of Glendale; sister, Eve Eisenberg of Florida; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Beth El Cemetery with Rabbi Arthur Lavinsky officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Chabad of the West Valley, 7227 W. Bluefield Ave., Glendale 85308.



Alex 'Sandy' Rothstein

Alex "Sandy" Rothstein of Portland, Ore., died Dec. 18, 2003. He was 85. He was born in New York City and moved to Arizona in 1985 from Minneapolis, before relocating to Portland. He was a real estate broker and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Judson of Portland; sons, Jim of Phoenix and Tom of Los Angeles; brother, Ben of Phoenix; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Beth El Cemetery with Rabbi Arthur Lavinsky officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Arizona Council of Jewish War Veterans, 24641 N. 76th Place, Scottsdale 85255.



Anna G. Beer

Anna G. Beer of Sun City died Dec. 20, 2003. She was 83. She was born in New York City and moved to Arizona in 1985 from California. She was a retired legal secretary for the district attorney's office in New York City. She was a member of Temple Beth Israel.

Survivors include her daughters, Frann Beer of Los Angeles, Leigh Strickman and Bernice Garfinkel, both of Glendale; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Beth El Cemetery, with Rabbi Erica Burech officiating. Contributions are suggested to The American Cancer Society, 2929 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix 85016.



Martin B. Karnell

Martin B. Karnell, age 79, of Phoenix passed away December 19, 2003. He was a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Beverly, daughters Beth (Randy) Gross and Cindy (Gene) Werth, son Jerry (Jeanne) Karnell, grandchildren Linzey and Justin Werth, Sarah Gross, and Jeffrey, Leigh, Grace and Stephen Karnell. Funeral services were held December 21, 2003 at Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale. Contributions in his memory are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.
