B'nai Mitzvah

Mitchell Logan Goist, son of Melissa Lavitt and Ken Goist, both of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah Dec. 6, 2003, at Temple Solel.

Grandparents are Janice and Howard Lavitt of Paradise Valley.

Mitchell attends Cocopah Middle School. His hobbies include political debate, reading, writing and playing saxophone.

For his mitzvah project, Mitchell participated in the Ride for the Children bike-a-thon to benefit the Thomas J. Pappas school.



Lauren Yael Shapiro, daughter of Linda and Fred Shapiro of Scottsdale, will become a bat mitzvah Dec. 6, 2003, at Temple Kol Ami.

Grandparents are Rhea Ritter of Scottsdale; Al Green of Jacksonville, Fla.; and the late Rose and Sam Shapiro.

Lauren attends Mountainside Middle School. Her hobbies include skiing and playing softball and tennis.

For her mitzvah project, Lauren volunteered at the Hillel Jewish Student Center at Arizona State University.



Benjamin David Barkan, son of Cindy and Tony Barkan of Phoenix, will become a bar mitzvah Dec. 6, 2003, at Temple Beth Israel.

Grandparents are Yoland and Philip Barkan and Dorothy Sherman, all of Phoenix; and the late Robert Sherman.

Great-grandparents are Charles Pearlstein of Phoenix; and the late Ethel Pearlstein.

Benjamin attends Royal Palm Middle School. His hobbies include playing basketball and baseball, drawing and listening to music.

For his mitzvah project, Benjamin helped the homeless and the needy through a leadership program at his school.
