Young adults reunite at YLD's Mazelpalooza

The Young Leadership Division of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix will host its sixth annual Mazelpalooza celebration, 8:30 p.m.-1 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, at Sanctuary Bar, 7340 E. Shoeman Lane, Scottsdale.

Mazelpalooza not only has helped create a forum that has introduced people to the Valley's young Jewish community but has kept those who are active more connected, said Rob Friedlander, event co-chairman. Leisah Namm, managing editor of Jewish News of Greater Phoenix, is the co-chairwoman.

YLD chose Sanctuary Bar because it is "a high energy place," said Friedlander. Another reason was because of its size. "We expect a larger group this year," he noted.

Approximately 550 people attended Mazelpalooza in 2001, said John Magoulas, federation senior campaign associate. Last year, more than 600 people attended.

"Sanctuary is a hot spot," Magoulas said. "We thought it would bring people out (to celebrate)."

For Joy Weber, YLD vice president of education and outreach, Mazelpalooza has special significance.

At Mazelpalooza in 1998, mutual friends introduced her, formerly Joy Solon, to Adam Weber. They married last month.

"(Mazelpalooza) is special to us and a great place to have fun," she said. "People feel comfortable to go to a large event and see old high school or college friends."

Cost is $20 before Dec. 19, and $25 after or at the door. To make reservations, visit www.jewishphoenix.org/calendar or mail check to YLD, 12701 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale 85254. Call 480-634-4900, ext. 1120.
