Obituaries

Sylvan Salk

Sylvan Salk of Scottsdale died Nov. 22, 2003. He was 83. He was born in Chicago and moved to Arizona in 1972. He was the owner of an automotive business and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his daughter, Andrea Field of Herndon, Va.; son, Steven of Scottsdale; sister, Rochelle Fann of Scottsdale; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to American Cancer Society, 2929 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix 85016.



Joan-Doan Finston

Joan-Doan Finston of Scottsdale died Nov. 19, 2003. She was 72. She was born in New York City.

Survivors include her daughters, Gayle Ahearn and Gwen Hahn, both of Phoenix; sons, Garrison Singer and Gregg Singer, both of Phoenix; sister, Cynthia-May Schiller of Detroit; and six grandchildren.

Services were held at Sinai Memorial Chapel with Rabbi B. Charles Herring officiating. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014.



Esther Rubinstein

Esther Rubinstein of Winnipeg, Manitoba, died Nov. 14, 2003. She was 94. She was born in Winnipeg. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Lillian Freeman chapter of Hadassah and the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue Sisterhood.

Survivors include her daughter, Verne Rosenfield of Phoenix; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held at the Simkin Centre in Winnipeg, with Rabbi Neal Rose officiating.



Jack Koplan

Jack Koplan of Scottsdale died Nov. 21, 2003. He was 78. He was born in Poland and moved to Arizona in 1997 from Chicago. He owned and operated his own con-struction company. He was a Holocaust survivor of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

Survivors include his sons, Jerry and Marty, both of Scottsdale; four sisters; and six grandchildren.

Services were held at Green Acres Cemetery. Arrange-ments were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014; or American Cancer Society, 2929 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix 85016.



Dr. Susan Ohanesian

Dr. Susan Ohanesian, age 82. Beloved mother of John (Queenie) and Consuelo, wife of the late Haroutien, and cherished friend of Harold W. Land for over 40 years. Love, compassion and respect for God, her children, friends, and all other living things was her way of life. She set her children's feet on the path of knowledge and was an inspiration and never ending source of love and encouragement, for which they will always be grateful. Mother, friend, physician. Loved beyond words.

Graveside services were held November 25, 2003 at Beth Israel Cemetery in Phoenix. Contributions may be directed to Temple Beth Israel, 10460 N. 56th St., Scottsdale, AZ 85253; Barrow Neurological Institute, St. Joseph's Hospital, 350 W.
