'You people' used to cope with anti-SemitismEditor:My 9-year-old son attends a public school in Scottsdale. Last week he had his first, and unfortunately probably not his last, taste of anti-Semitism, or as I tried to explain to him, a lack of consideration for what America is all about. We are a melting pot of different cultures. I told him how proud I was of him with how he handled the situation and that he knows he is a Jewish boy and is very proud to be. I wanted to thank you for your "Voices" column, "In defense of 'You People.'" (Jewish News, Nov. 7) Your article gave me new insight as a parent. I had my son read it, and he walked away with his head high. The one thing I have always told him is that in defense of who he is to follow in the footsteps of our ancestors, who always used what God gave us, a gift to use our brains and not our fists. This article proved once again that we are a gifted people. This is just another example of the community coming to the rescue of a single mom and not even knowing it. Judith Fox Scottsdale Oppose U.N. role in peace processEditor:The editorial in last week's paper ("Time for change," Jewish News, Nov. 7) discusses the poll that finds that 59 percent of the Europeans think Israel is the greatest danger to peace. This is another reason to keep the United Nations out of any policy-making decisions about the Middle East, whether in Israel or Iraq. Jews should have second thoughts about backing presidential candidates who urge a greater role in the Middle East for the United Nations. Sandor Shuch Phoenix
