The first Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center Gift Show, held Nov. 2 at the Ina Levine Jewish Community Campus, attracted 3,200 shoppers and more than 70 vendors.
"The show exceeded my expectations and hopes," says Amy Petrovsky, show coordinator. "Everyone was so happy."
Community members perused booths for Judaica keepsakes, jewelry, clothing and more, while vendors enjoyed a steady stream of buyers throughout the day.
"The quality of the merchandize was great," says Petrovsky. "People were ready to spend money, so that was good. All the vendors were pleased, and they did well (financially)."
In addition to gift shopping, the show also offered family-friendly entertainment, including music and games donated by JBW Entertainment, and a Kid Zone, featuring large inflatable castles and boats for children to play on.
"We wanted an atmosphere of fun, family and shopping," says Petrovsky. "Parents can only shop so long if their kids are restless. This way, they can run around and get out all of their energy."
Petrovsky plans to feature the Kid Zone at every JCC event she coordinates from now on.
Also, Petrovsky and JCC administrators have already begun making plans for next year's show.
"We're looking at doing an evening reception and a next-day show because it was so successful," she says.
"I can't thank the community enough for supporting the JCC Gift Show," she continues. "We want to bring quality events to the community, so we are trying new things. I also think it's important to have feedback. You can't do wonderful things unless the community talks to you."
