Malaysian Protocols

Editorial

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad dropped in on an Islamic summit meeting and offered his views on how the world operates. "The Europeans killed 6 million Jews out of 12 million," he noted, "but today the Jews rule the world by proxy. They get others to fight and die for them."

It wasn't clear which war he was thinking about - the one that the Palestinians have waged for three years against Israel presumably doesn't count.

What was really striking was his readiness to embrace the core belief of anti-Semites the world over who never stop blaming someone else for the troubles they make for themselves. Never mind that the Arab world has garnered several trillion dollars in oil revenues over the last century, while doubling its population and quadrupling its poverty. In Mahathir's words, whatever is wrong can be traced to Jews.

The anti-Semitic tract "The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion" is alive and well in Malaysia.

Jewish Renaissance Media

Age-old tactic

The greater part of Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's speech was critical of the Muslim world. He condemned "the interpreters of Islam who taught that acquisition of knowledge by Muslims meant only the study of Islamic theology." He accused Muslims of being driven by anger and thinking irrationally. As a result, he opined, "they launch their own attacks, killing just about everybody, including fellow Muslims to vent their anger and frustration."

Still, Mahathir refused to place ultimate blame for the Muslims' plight upon his fellow Muslims. Instead, he scapegoated the Jews. This is nothing new.
  • In his rise to power, Adolf Hitler criticized the German people for becoming weak and submissive, but he contended the root cause was the Jews.

  • Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak allowed the release of "Horseman without a Horse" - a re-tread of "The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion" - ostensibly to explain why Egypt is no longer a power in the Middle East. The film teaches that the Egyptian people need not blame their leaders. Instead, blame the Jews.
In the new millennium, the world is becoming neither more enlightened nor more forward-thinking. To the contrary. The venomous anti-Semitic rhetoric spreading throughout Muslim-controlled nations - representing 1.3 billion people - suggests the people of the world have regressed.

In this climate, Jewish people everywhere must remember the lessons of the past and remain vigilant.
