B'nai Mitzvah

Renee Allison Roth, daughter of Barbara and Mark Roth of Scottsdale, will become a bat mitzvah Oct. 25, 2003, at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are Claire and Arthur Covner of Sun City West; Lois Roth of Phoenix; and the late Jerome Roth.

Renee attends Desert Shadows Middle School. Her hobbies include gymnastics and dance, theater, rock climbing, ceramics, woodworking and music.

For her mitzvah project, Renee collected clothing for Sunnyslope Family Shelter and participated in pet therapy for the elderly.



Jay Michael Roth, son of Barbara and Mark Roth of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah Oct. 25, 2003, at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are Claire and Arthur Covner of Sun City West; Lois Roth of Phoenix; and the late Jerome Roth.

Jay attends Desert Shadows Middle School. His hobbies include ice hockey and baseball.

For his mitzvah project, Jay collected clothing for the Sunnyslope Family Shelter and participated in pet therapy for the elderly.



David Shai Campbell, son of Dina and Sherwood Campbell of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah Oct. 25, 2003, at Har Zion Congregation.

Grandparents are Dvorah and Menachem Auster of Kiryat Tivon, Israel; and the late Marietta and Sherwood Campbell.

David attends Pardes Jewish Day School. His hobbies include science, sports, chess and coin collecting.

For his mitzvah project, David collected and donated toys through Jewish Family & Children's Service.



Heather Rose Brierley, daughter of Candee and Scott Brierley of Phoenix, will become a bat mitzvah Oct. 25, 2003, at Temple Solel.

Grandparents are Eleanor and Richard Brierley of Scottsdale; and the late Bettie and James Cutler.

Great-grandparent is Labeula Mowry of Scottsdale.

Heather attends Ingleside Middle School. Her hobbies include painting drawing and photography.

For her mitzvah project, Heather performed 13 mitzvot, a combination of Torah, avodah (work) and gemilut chasadim (acts of kindness).



Andrew Cole Starkman, son of Heidi Starkman of Scottsdale and Joel Starkman of Phoenix, will become a bar mitzvah Oct. 25, 2003, at Temple Kol Ami.

Grandparents are Hinda and Henry Newman of Anthem; and Elaine and Leon Starkman of Walnut Creek, Calif.

Great-grandparents are Berta Cohen of Phoenix and Eva Marcus of Walnut Creek, Calif.

Andrew attends Mountainside Middle School. His hobbies include piano, reading car magazines, working out and spending time on the computer.

For his mitzvah project, Andrew sponsored bar mitzvah tutoring for a child in Israel through the ARZA World Reform Program.



Daniel Cadoff, son of Cindy and Robert Cadoff of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah Oct. 25, 2003, at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are Belle and Ralph Freund of Tucson; and Roselyn and Herbert Cadoff of Chester Springs, Pa.

Great-grandparent is Sara Cadoff of Bronx, N.Y.

Daniel attends Desert Shadows Middle School. His hobbies include guitar, rollerblading and computers.

For his mitzvah project, Daniel repaired and donated bicycles.



Helene Leopold and Sydnee Shalita will celebrate their b'nai mitzvah in November at Temple Havurat Emet in Sun Lakes. The pair studied Hebrew and a Haftorah portion in preparation for the event. The celebration marks the first adult b'nai mitzvah at the synagogue.
