VOSJCC provides option for after-school programs

Working parents now have a Jewish option for after-school child care.

The Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center recently started Club J, a program that provides transportation for children in kindergarten through fifth grade from 16 local schools to the VOSJCC for afternoon programming.

Each child is provided with a nutritious, kosher snack and then participates in various activities, including swimming two times per week, sports, computers, arts and crafts, game room and homework. During scheduled homework time, homework help is available.

According to Monica Rosenbaum, VOSJCC child-ren's coordinator, children also have an opportunity to participate in conversational Hebrew, holiday celebrations, and more.

Children can also take additional classes through the VOSJCC, which they will be escorted to by Club J staff members.

"We're a community center and your community can't grow unless you start out with the kids," says Rosenbaum. "We really just want to get them in and let them experience a community center and enjoy the facility."

Rosenbaum says the staff members are all camp staff who are familiar with the children and the facility.

Club J is available to both members and nonmembers, and school early release days are included in the cost.

Hours are from school dismissal until 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and until 5 p.m. Fridays.

Camps are held on school holidays and vacation days.

For more information, contact Monica Rosenbaum, 480-483-7121, ext. 1277 or e-mail monicar@vosjcc.org.
