Remember American victims of terrorEditor:It is worth noting that there was a glaring omission in the table showing the American death toll from terror that accompanied a recent Wall Street Journal editorial supporting the president's policy on Iraq. ("The Central Front," Sept. 9) Not included were the no fewer than 47 Americans citizens, including women and children, murdered in Israel during the last decade by Palestinian terrorists. That's just one shy of the number killed in the attacks on the Khobar Towers, African embassies and USS Cole combined. The fatal mistake these Americans made was riding a bus, eating in a restaurant or attending a religious celebration. They were victims of murder/suicide bombs, stabbings, drive-by shootings and even stonings. The most recent victims were the five Americans, including a 3-month-old baby, killed in the Jerusalem bus bombing on Aug. 19. We must make every effort to bring to justice the murderers and those who sent them, no matter who they are. For instance, we know that three of the 13 Palestinians sent into exile after the standoff at the Church of the Nativity are responsible for the murder of two Americans. We should hunt them down and arrest them. If the war on terror means anything, we must not forget these fallen Americans. J.D. Hayworth U.S. Congressman (R.-AZ) Absurd foreign policyEditor:It is morally absurd of U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell to demand that Israel keep Yasser Arafat in place because he is the elected leader of the Palestinians. Would Powell's "hands-off elected leaders" position stand if Arafat were to step down from his post, and Osama bin Laden were to be elected president of the Palestinians? Don't the 50 Americans killed by Arafat in the last decade deserve justice too? Jon Sigona Scottsdale
