New cemetery to offer Jewish burial

The Valley Jewish community will soon have a new option for traditional burial in the Northeast Valley.

Pinnacle Cemeteries, LLC, an independent owner-operated business, will open an approximately 22-acre cemetery at Pinnacle Peak Road and 68th Street in Phoenix. The cemetery's first phase is scheduled to open early next year.

"We started thinking about doing this four to five years ago," said Ray Perlman, a partner in Pinnacle Cemeteries. "There are no cemeteries in the Northeast Valley that adhere to traditional Jewish burials."

Perlman is also the owner of Sinai Mortuary; however, the companies are separate entities.

The cemetery will offer 5-foot pathways between gravesites so graves will not be walked on, said Perlman. It will also have a chapel for 80 or more people to house graveside ceremonies.

Proper burial requirements will be met for all branches of Judaism.

The company plans to have sections for Reform, Conservative and Orthodox Jews, as well as an area for intermarried couples and their children.

"We will have the traditional standing monuments as an option, so there won't be just a flat marker on the graves," Perlman added. "It'll be done in a very traditional way."
