East Valley Chabad moves into new building

Chabad of the East Valley invites the community to visit its new, temporary facility, Chabad Center for Jewish Life. An open house will be held 12:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at 3855 W. Ray Road, #6, Chandler.

The congregation moved into its new home in the beginning of August. It's located in a strip mall adjacent to property purchased in October 2001 to build a new facility. Fund-raising events are being planned for this year to help build this facility, said Rabbi Mendy Deitsch.

Meanwhile, Chabad of the East Valley has taken a two-year lease in the 1,700-square-foot space where it holds Saturday morning Shabbat services, classes, lectures and other programs as well as Wednesday-night Hebrew school. Sunday Hebrew school, with more than 70 children, is held at Children's World in Chandler.

After the High Holidays, plans include Friday night Shabbat services and a monthly youth Shabbat service, Deitsch said, as well as a Judaica shop by the end of the year.

The building is on the southeast corner of Ray and McClintock roads in Chandler. Deitsch, as well as staff and community members, will be present at the open house.
