Sun Lakes welcomes new rabbi

The Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation invites members and prospective members to meet Rabbi Irwin Wiener at the synagogue's Selichot service 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Sun Lakes Chapel, 9240 N. Sun Lakes Blvd.

An old-fashioned ice cream social follows.

Wiener is executive director emeritus of the Hebrew Free Loan Association of San Francisco and throughout his career has served as a director of Jewish education and executive director of several synagogues.

He currently serves on the boards of the Greater Phoenix Jewish Free Loan and the Center for Spiritual Judaism; is a member of the Development Committee of the Interfaith Community Care in Sun City; and teaches Torah at Sun City Grand and Temple Gan Elohim.

Wiener lives in Sun City Grand with his wife Sandra.

"To be able to participate in the lives of the Jewish population of Sun Lakes presents an exciting challenge for me as a rabbi," Wiener said. "I look forward, as well, to my involvement beyond the High Holidays." Call 480-895-6917.
