William Robert Mawyer, son of Dory and David Mawyer of Scottsdale, will become a bar mitzvah Sept. 1, 2003, at The New Shul.

Grandparents are Betty and J.P. Mawyer of Flushing, N.Y.; Lucy Goldhaber of Forest Hills, N.Y.; and the late William Goldhaber.

William attends Desert Arroyo Accelerated Middle School. His hobbies include golf, basketball, computer and video games, being a peer mediator and babysitting.

For his mitzvah project, William volunteers at Desert Foothills Community Education doing Invention Camp and games with elementary-aged children.



Shane Dustin Huffer, son of Randee and Ken Huffer of Cave Creek, will become a bar mitzvah Aug. 30, 2003, at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are Evelyne and Albert Burrows of Munster, Ind.; Jane Huffer of Lexington, Ky.; and Carl Huffer of Tampa, Fla.

Shane attends Desert Arroyo Middle School. His hobbies include karate, swimming, playing the piano and coin collecting.

For his mitzvah project, Shane tutored and read to children from Thomas J. Pappas Elementary School. He also participated in field trips to the zoo and the movies with the students.



Mari Rachel Greenberg, daughter of Cindy and Alan Greenberg of Scottsdale, will become a bat mitzvah Aug. 30, 2003, at Temple Chai.

Grandparents are Donna and Al Apple of Minneapolis; Naomi Greenberg of Omaha; and Mickey and Mort Greenberg of Scottsdale.

Mari attends Mountainside Middle School. Her hobbies include soccer, softball, volleyball, saxophone and piano.

For her mitzvah project, Mari organized a collection of used soccer equipment for donations to teams in need of gear.



Joshua Benjamin Rosenbaum, son of Michelle and David Rosenbaum of Phoenix, will become a bar mitzvah Aug. 30, 2003, at Beth El Congregation.

Grandparents are Lila and Newlin Booth of Philadelphia; Richard Rosenbaum of Gulf Port, Fla.; the late Meredith Atkinson; and the late Darrell Mitchel.

Great-grandparents are the late Rose and Benjamin Rosenbaum; the late Bess and Nathan Wolfman; the late Opal and Albert Mitchel; and the late Mayme and Allen Smith.

Joshua attends Madison Meadows Middle School. His hobbies include baseball, roller hockey and science fiction.



Matan Roee Shahar, son of Lesley Shahar of Tempe and the late Shmuel Shahar, will become a bar mitzvah Aug. 30, 2003, at Temple Emanuel.

Grandparents are Shirley and Max Feinberg of Mesa; and the late Tova and Mordecai Shahar.

Matan attends Fees Middle School. His hobbies include basketball, playing the bass and video games.

For his mitzvah project, Matan collected food for the St. Vincent de Paul food bank.



Alec Horne, son of Jan and Mike Horne of Gilbert, will become a bar mitzvah Aug. 30, 2003, at Temple Emanuel.

Grandparents are Lennie and Lennie Grobstein of Scottsdale; Joan Horne of Paradise Valley; and the late Elliot Horne.

Great-grandparent is Laura Schwartz of Scottsdale.

Alec attends Gilbert Junior High School.

For his mitzvah project, Alec collected toys, games and money for the Sojourner Center, a domestic violence shelter.



Mackenzie Horne, daughter of Jan and Mike Horne of Gilbert, will become a bat mitzvah Aug. 30, 2003, at Temple Emanuel.

Grandparents are Lennie and Lennie Grobstein of Scottsdale; Joan Horne of Paradise Valley; and the late Elliot Horne.
