Obituaries

Leon Lederman

Leon Lederman of Phoenix died Aug. 16, 2003. He was 82. He was born in Lublin, Poland, and moved to Arizona in 1973 from New York. He was a tailor in the garment industry.

Survivors include his daughters, Eliane Lederman and Rosette Benjamin; son, Gary Lederman; and sisters, Sophie Evenas and Franya Grizolet.

Services were held at Eden Memorial Park. Arrangements were made by Green Acres Funeral Mortuary.



Harry Marcus

Harry Marcus of Phoenix died Aug. 16, 2003. He was 95. He was born in Iasi, Romania, and moved to Arizona in 1956 from Indiana. He was the owner of Shalimar Apartments. He was a member of Masonic Lodge and Shriners.

Survivors include his daughters, Sharon Cole of Phoenix and Elaine Marcus of Los Angeles; son, Mel Marcus of Scottsdale; brothers, Al Marcus of Phoenix and Jack Marcus of El Paso, Texas; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were held in California. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to City of Hope, 7900 E. Greenway, Suite #207, Scottsdale AZ 85260.



Sylvia Mutchnik, née Blumberg

Sylvia Mutchnik, née Blumberg, passed away peacefully with family at her side on August 14, 2003, at the age of 90. Sylvia was a loving wife to the late Meyer "Muncie" Mutchnik, beloved mother to Nanean (Al) Fann and Dr. David (Wendy) Mutchnik, her treasured son; adoring grandmother to Jodi (Rick) Sherman, Amy (Fred) Petrovsky, Michelle (Dan) Blumenfeld, Elizabeth (Zack) Safrin, Jim (Kate) Mutchnik and Dr. Steven (Eden) Mutchnik.

Sylvia left an indisputable legacy of love and kindness to her six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Fond sister of Sydel Zemel and the late Rueben, Lester, and Charlotte Blumberg.

Private memorial services were held on Friday the 15th of August in Chicago. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014-5656; or to ARMDI for Magen David Adom, 602-787-2930.
