Obituaries

Molly Fann

Molly Fann of Scottsdale died July 18, 2003. She was 96. She was born in Liverpool, England, and moved to Arizona in 1960 from Chicago. She was a homemaker and card player. She was a past member of Hadassah and a past member of B'nai B'rith.

Survivors include her sons, Don Fann of Paradise Valley; Floyd Fann and Al Fann, both of Scottsdale; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Arizona Mental Health Association, 6411 E. Thomas Road, Scottsdale 85003; and Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix 85014.



Harold L. Rothstein

Harold L. Rothstein of Phoenix died July 17, 2003. He was 81. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Arizona in 1960 from Minnesota. He was a retired manufacturer and served in the U.S. armed forces.

Survivors include his wife, Adelle of Phoenix; daughter, Arlene Probost of Phoenix; son, Gary Rothstein of Phoenix; brothers, Benjamin Rothstein of Scottsdale and Alex (Sandy) Rothstein of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Beth El Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Sinai Mortuary. Contributions are suggested to Arizona Kidney Foundation, 4203 E. Indian School Road, #140, Phoenix 85018; and American Cancer Society, 2929 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix 85016.



Martin L. Fine

Martin L. Fine of Cincinnati died July 12, 2003. He was 85. He was born in Cincinnati and moved to Arizona in 1992 from St. George, Utah. He was a supervisor of a scrap yard in Florida.

Survivors include his daughters, Linda Niehaus and Rhona Fine, both of Cincinnati; son, Jeffrey Fine of Cincinnati; sister, Florence Wick of Cincinnati; brother, Roy Fine of Sun Lakes; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at Weil's Funeral Home in Cincinnati. Arrangements were made by Weil's Funeral Home. Contributions are suggested to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 3800 N. Central Ave., #700, Phoenix 85012.



Jerome Bash

Jerome Bash, age 83, passed away on July 22, 2003 in Glendale. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y. and moved to the Valley 28 years ago. Jerome was a retired clothing retailer. He is survived by his nieces, Bobbie Berner, Nancy Stoler and Dianne Ovens and nephew David Bash. He is preceded in death by his sister Sylvia Mills and brother Nathan Bash.

Graveside services were held Thursday, July 24, 2003 in Beth El Cemetery. Contributions in his memory are requested to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



Albert Gordon

Albert Gordon, age 89, passed away on July 18, 2003. He was born in Chicago and moved to Phoenix in 1957. He was the Arizona state manager of Calvert Distillers Co. prior to retiring. Al was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather with a warm smile and keen sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ethel. Survivors include his daughters Lauren Gonzales (Steve) of Tempe and Ellen Kelman (Marc) of Phoenix; grandchildren Alana Gonzales, Scott Kelman, Stephanie Kelman; and his sister Lillian Olshine of Florida.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 20, 2003 in Scottsdale. Contributions in his memory are suggested to Jewish National Fund, 1645 E. Missouri #110, Phoenix, AZ 85016; or Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 3100 E. Roosevelt, Phoenix, AZ 85008.



Selma Judith Pinkwasser

Selma Judith Pinkwasser, age 76, passed away July 18, 2003 in Tempe. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and has been a resident of the Valley for 20 years. She was a retired seamstress and manicurist. Selma worked with the Tri-City Jewish Community Center and was a member of Temple Emanuel and the Sisterhood. Survivors include her sons Rabbi David (Ann) Pinkwasser, Steven (Carole) Pinkwasser and Richard Adam (Marilen) Pinkwasser; and grandchildren Josh (Carrie), Aaron, Mitchell, Marni, Gabrielle and Ethan Pinkwasser.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 20, 2003. Contributions in her memory are requested to Temple Emanuel of Tempe, 5801 S. Rural Rd., Tempe, AZ 85283; or Odyssey Hospice Care, 202 E. Earl Dr., Suite #320, Phoenix, AZ 85012. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.



Arlene Goldman Smith

Arlene Goldman Smith, age 92, born October 4, 1910 in Chicago, and a resident of Phoenix of 39 years, passed away July 19, 2003 in Phoenix.

Daughter of the late Sarah and Sol Margolin, sister of the late Florence Orlowsky, Arlene was the wife of the late Milton H. Goldman and the late Israel Smith. She is survived by sister Harriet Schneider of Skokie, Ill.; three children, Alberta Gruber and Fred Goldman of Phoenix and Ellyn Gorman of Kauai, Hawaii; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a member of Temple Beth Israel of Skokie, IIl. and Temple Beth Israel of Phoenix. For 12 years, she served as a Brownie Leader for the Girl Scouts of America in Chicago. She served as treasurer for Temple Beth Israel Sisterhood in Skokie. She also served terms as president and treasurer of the Phoenix chapter and treasurer of the Arizona Council of Jewish Women International, formerly B'nai B'rith Women. Her kindness touched people's hearts wherever she went.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 25, 2003, at Sinai Mortuary Chapel, 4538 N. 16th St. Phoenix. The family suggests memorials be sent to any of the organizations that she was affiliated with.
