Scott Leader has been hired as assistant principal at the Temple Chai Religious School. Leader, who moved to the Valley from Denver, ser-ved as a can-torial solo-ist at Temple Sinai in Col-orado and has been a youth director, summer camp director and elementary school science teacher. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona.

Dr. Walter Lindert, the piano accompanist for the Sun Lakes Jewish Congre-gation's choir, has retired from the position. Lindert, who has his doctorate in music, is training Dorothy Rien to take over the position.

Dennis Kavanaugh has been appointed chairman of the Arizona Commission on the Arts by Governor Janet Napolitano. Napolitano also appointed five new commission members to three-year terms. Appointees are Manuel Burruel, Glendale; Victoria Cummiskey, Phoenix; Ivan Makil, Phoenix; William Sheppard, Phoenix; and Mariko Silver, Scottsdale.

Alan Cohen of Mesa has been accepted to a registered nursing program beginning next month. The Temple Beth Sholom member moved to the Valley from New York in August 2001, and currently works in cardiology nursing. He also serves on a committee for the City of Mesa.

Lawrence Sands, DO, MPH, medical director of the Bio Defense Preparedness and Response division of the Maricopa County Depart-ment of Public Health, was elected president of the board at the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association con-vention.
