The Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix has hired an executive vice president, the highest ranking staff position in the organization.

The new agency head, Adam Schwartz, is currently the assistant executive vice president and campaign director of United Jewish Communities of MetroWest in Whippany, N.J.

In his 15 years of Jewish communal work, Schwartz has also served as senior campaign associate, missions director and senior contributor development associate at the United Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, and as senior campaign associate and campaign and community relations associate at Jewish Federation of Cleveland.

"We are delighted with the selection of Adam Schwartz as our new executive vice president," said Vicki Cabot, federation president. "He brings not only an abundance of youthful enthusiasm and vitality, but solid administrative and campaign experience."

The position of executive vice president has been vacant for 10 months, since the resignation of Art Paikowsky last September.

The search process began in January, when the federation retained the services of search consultant Ron Meier, senior vice president of professional and volunteer development for United Jewish Communities in New York. Seven names were presented to a local search committee headed by chairwoman Berry Sweet. In early May, the field was narrowed to two candidates.

Sweet looks forward to Schwartz's contributions to the community.

"Adam will bring new energy, creativity and vision to our federation and the community as a whole," she said.

Schwartz plans to arrive in Phoenix in August with his wife, Stacey, and three children, Jacob, 6, Alisa, 3, and Noah, 6 months.

"I am thrilled to have been given this opportunity to lead the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix. It is a wonderful opportunity to work with a committed group of lay leaders and staff," said Schwartz in a press release. "Phoenix has experienced tremendous growth within the Jewish community over the last decade, and there is great potential for continued growth. The Phoenix Jewish community has the unique opportunity to become a standard-setter for other Jewish communities across North America."
